What are my options if I would like to make phone calls but don't want anyone to see who I am?

Is there a service option like Pay As You Go where I can just enable my cellphone without having to provide my name or address?

Yes, I believe you can do this with just about all PAYG services, in the context that your personal information isn't verified. Though they may require ID if you intend to use data services.

Note also that "Caller ID blocking" does NOT block ANI (Automatic Number Identification). The only way to defeat that is to forward the call via a forwarding service, and their actual number shows up. Anybody who's willing to pay for ANI can get it, but it may require a business line. Businesses with 1-800 ( and 888 and 877 ans 866 ) numbers get a printout of calls as part of their bills. This is because owners of 1-8XX numbers pay for incoming calls, which is why they're free for you to call.

If you're talking strictly wireless, then you could use a VoIP app on your smartphone to make calls. You could use a Voip service and call forward your calls from the VoIP service.

Note that many people (myself included) block such calls.

I believe you have a choice on how you want your number/name displayed as you register the phone. Many people have this shown as private number/name, however, as hugh mentioned, some people block these calls.

On a home phone I believe *67 blocks the number for that call. Simply dial *67 and wait for the dial tone, then dial who you want. Do not confuse this with *69. I've never tried this on a cell.

Since my wife was a teacher/VP for more than 30 years, when we first registered our home phone in the 1970s, we registered it under another name - this way we avoided the charge for an unlisted number at the time.

Call Blocking On Rogers Wireless

dial #31# before the number you are calling for wireless.

I imagine there is an additional charge for this and I'm not sure if all carriers do this. Probably best to contact your provider for specifics.

there is no charge for call blocking on a per use basis on rogers wireless or any of its affiliate mvno's.

the only con is some residential numbers will not allow a call to go through if a private number is calling them.

Note also that Call Trace will work REGARDLESS of *67 or a permanent block on your line.

HOWEVER, the trace is used for instances where you intend to have charges pressed for criminal activity. You do not find out the number, but it's retained by the TelCo when requested by law enforcement and a per-use fee up to a maximum per month is applied to your bill.
