Hi guys / gals;
Just a quick question for those at the top... Now that Sirius and XM have merged. Will the repeaters carry both signals? Here in St. John's, Newfoundland there is no repeater for Sirius, but XM has a couple... Sirius is bad in around town at a few locations, but when you get out of the heart of the city and ALL the prov. you can't get any better. While on the other hand XM is great in town, but when you get outside the city look out !!! Very bad signal, if you see a tree, you can count on signal drop. Just wondering if there are any news on repeaters for St. John's with Sirius as I have a lifetime sub... Thanks |

A recent thread on an XM fan forum discussed SiriusXM's future plans. If the information posted was trustworthy, the current XM 1.0 and Sirius 1.0 are going to be shifted to XM 2.0. Over the course of the multi-year transition, Sirius 1.0 radios will stop working and presumably be replaced with XM 2.0 radios. Existing XM 1.0 radios will stay working, based on what was posted, although there may be new XM 2.0 content that they won't be able to receive.
In short, if this is true, adding Sirius repeating to XM repeaters seems unlikely since the Sirius platform will be wound down within a few years. In the long run, though, the Sirius satellites will be transmitting XM 2.0 (and possibly XM 1.0 also) which should improve your rural coverage. |

Thanks for the info... But if this goes ahead it still will not help me in the city as for the 3-4 areas where we get signal lost. Last year i got a new car and it had XM free for 6 months. At the time i had my Sirius radio in the car and while in the city used XM with no signal lost, but when leaving the city turn off the installed radio and switched to Sirius for full coverage across the island. I have a lifetime sub with Sirius so to pay XM extra just to get these few places in the city it's not worth it... Just seemed it was the next move with the merger...

The tentative information posted elsewhere (crossposts to other forums not allowed here) states that SiriusXM will launch temporary repeater coverage using the west satellite's frequencies. If this is true St. John's should be fine because you cannot see the west satellite at all from Newfoundland and these frequencies would be available for temporary use on the repeaters while full XM 2.0 is launched.
