Default BBC Radio 1 - GONE!

So here I woke up this morning and went to drive into work, BBC is always on in the morning and afternoon drive ... but ... BAM no more!!!!! Not good as this is one of the only channels I really listen to.

What the heck happened??? No warning what so ever, just no more BBC.

from Sirius XM website

A Note to BBC Radio 1 Listeners

Quote:
BBC Radio 1 is no longer available on SiriusXM. Many of the songs heard on BBC Radio 1 can be heard on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) or 20 on 20 (Ch. 3), Alt Nation (Ch. 36), The Heat (Ch. 47) and BPM (Ch. 51). For a British perspective on the news you can listen to BBC World Service (Ch. 118).

Yeah I saw that, pretty pathetic.

If I wanted to listen to cheesy radio DJ's (like on 20on20 or Hits 1) I would just listen to my local radio station.

At least the BBC had interesting guests on and the live lounge sessions, etc etc etc.

Yeah, just got an upset email from my wife who also listens in the car.

I suspect it's due to the BBC iPlayer being officially launched in North America soon, and not really Sirius's fault.

I'll miss the weekend mixes, plus Zane Lowe and some banter from the likes of Moyles and Mills.

My sub expires at the end of August, so we won't be renewing. I will miss SiriusXMU though.

I just got off the phone with XM Canada and the guy told me that from Midnight Aug 8th to Aug 15th Radio 1 would be off air at the request of BBC, and that it is not a permanent thing.

I kind of disagree with this considering the message on the channel says they are making room for a new channel.

Anyway, I suggest those of you who are upset to call in as the guy said a ton of people were calling in this morning and the more people who complain the better chance of it staying.

Yep BBC radio1 was the ONLY reason I kept my xmsirius subscriptions in my cars and at home. Cancelling all 3 radios this morning in protest.

Angry BBC radio 1 on sirius

I'm pissed that Sirius dropped radio 1 in canada I only subscribed last week and mainly for the radio 1 channel. I complained and all they can say is that the same music on on other channels. I can listen to normal crap musi on my local radio. I subscribed so listen to the djs and guests. Moyles, mills, jo wiley etc and the music is good better than other channels playing similar music. I don't want similar. How do we complain and and get radio 1 back. Or I'm going to cancel this sucks

Default Email address to complain!

I too have been disappointed and frustrated with SiriusXM's decision to wipe Radio 1 from it's list of channels. It's the only reason we got SiriusXM in the first place. I have been gutted driving around with nothing decent to listen to as our my 2 sons who love the varied music it provides and the DJ banter. It is the ONLY station on Sirius that provides varied music from all genres and LIVE music not to mention the DJ's - unrivaled. Plus for our family it was a little bit of home and kept us in touch with all the things our frineds and family in the UK talk about.

Anyway I complained and you can too:
Gary.Schoenwetter@siriusxm.com - Senior Director Music Programming
lydia.ortega@siriusxm.com - Office of Mel Karmazin CEO Sirius
bbcradio1@siriusxm.com

Feel free to let them know what you think of this terrible decision! I did! - and hopefully they will reverse it. In the meantime - I've cancelled my subscription.

Everyone, get yourself a decent smartphone, a hefty data plan (the 6GB are available once again on the big 3) and stream away in your car your favorite radio station. Ever since I got myself my iPhone (when Rogers offered their first one) with a 6GB, I instantly began streaming in my car or on the bus and absolutely love it. It's live, it's FM or CD quality and rarely any breakups. I never ever listen to local radio, no more forced can con. I also cancelled my XM subscription 3 years ago and never looked back.

Default Boohoo!

So distraught about BBC Radio 1 missing from my playlist. I'm also one of the many fans who only subscribe to Sirius XM b/c of BBC Radio 1. There's nothing like it and I agree w/ others who said the substitute channels are pathetic. Puh-leeze. Quite a stretch. I will send emails, and if that doesn't work, I'll cancel. I like the iphone suggestion about being able to stream BBC.

That's so LOUSY of Sirius to drop BBC w/o giving listeners a heads-up or explanation. Shame on Sirius for its lack of customer service.

Some (many?) of us have Satellite Radio so we can pick up music where there is no FM or Cell phone service. I bought my Sirius for my roadtrips that take me far away from FM and Cell coverage.

Losing BBC Radio 1 is too bad

Default BBC Radio 1 replaced by Studio 54

Sirius/XM reused the BBC Radio 1 channel space for the new classic dance channel Studio 54.

I listened to BBC Radio 1 about 90% of the time that I listened to XM. I will be complaining and I'm thinking of cancelling. An open, honest explanation for dropping the channel would help to keep me as a subscriber.

Reply I got from Radio 1:

Quote:
We're sorry you're currently unable to enjoy Radio 1 via Sirius/XM. The deal which allowed Radio 1 to be broadcast in America recently finished and has unfortunately, at the moment, has not been renewed by Sirius/XM. We're not sure if this is a final decision, so if may be worth contacting them directly to express your view, but we would like to thank you for listening up until now.

Kind Regards,

Radio 1
Looks like this is entirely SiriusXM's fault.

Default BBC Radio 1

So, it occurred to me that maybe we were all mad at Sirius but it was really BBC that wanted out...so I wrote them first.
Almost immediately I got a form letter returned and assumed that my email went to junk and wouldn't be checked. However, when I got to work this morning I saw this response:

I know nothing about anything but it almost seems like this is a CRTC type of issue? Or something on a North American scale but same type of thing. Maybe someone knows someone higher than Sirius that we could start contacting?
All I got from Sirius was the same form that everyone else got; suggesting that I listen to other stations. I also wrote to the president of Sirius as the moderator advised but have yet to hear back...
Thanks to everyone for posting info...hopefully this posse can get our station back
