Activating old receiver for short duration? - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

I'm OTA-only but I'm trying to activate an old DSR-401 SD receiver for one month so I can have access to the 24-hour news channels during the election period.

Unfortunately Shaw Direct insists that I would be subject to the 12-month commitment and would face a $200 early termination fee despite me owning this receiver for 10 years and using an existing dish that's already installed.

Has anyone managed to get this commitment waived?
