Default Why would anyone get NetFlix? (What are you watching?)

I tried the free trial of NetFlix and it was terrible. All $1.99 bargain-bin movies and no current TV series. Seems pointless and yet everyone on the forums I read seems to think it's the dog's bollocks.

Just yesterday I discovered how much stuff there is for no additional charge under the Movie Central VOD! Complete seasons of TV shows, decent movies (ok, not ones that are currently in the theatres, but still good ones), all sorts of stuff.

This seems to be a well-hidden gem from Telus Optik . Previously I thought VOD was only charge by show VOD. Not true. It's an amazing value and I'm very impressed.

Go to VOD, select "TV" then "Movie Central VOD".
(I had said Showtime VOD, but fixed that).

I assume you have to have subscribed to Movie Central first.

It has HBO complete series, movies, all sorts of stuff. No extra charge!

Thanks! I found MC VOD but couldn't find Showtime(now I know why). Yes you do have to be subscribed to view these programs.

I'm a Netflix Canada subscriber, and I love it. Granted, it's my kids that watch it mostly. We don't have cable, so it works out nicely, especially for that low price. The selection for kids is great. Dora, Diego, Spongebob, Thomas the Train.. etc etc. ...tons of stuff.

I agree the selection otherwise is limited, but it's not bad, and it's improving all the time.

I do see a quality difference between OTA and netflix HQ, but it is still acceptable.

I have a free Netflix account (still have it for another 6 months or so) and from time to time I check out the picture quality. Still to this moment the PQ on a 50" viewed from about 12' away is horrible IMO. Let alone watching the shows on my 9ft screen from 9ft away.

I want it to be good. Heck, give me a $20/month option that's actually good and I'll be all over it. At its current state, even free is too expensive for me to waste my bandwidth, electricity and vision to watch it.

Your eyes must be a LOT better than mine. My Netflix PQ is excellent on my 56" DLP from around 10' away, through ATV2. The PQ is also excellent on my 50" Plasma using my PS3.

To be fair to Netflix, though, Rogers on Demand programmes are crudtastic to me eyes too.

I found the "HD" titles on Netflix to be good, while the other titles are obviously not as great.

Make sure you select "high quality" settings under your Netflix profile to get the best quality available, otherwise with the default settings on every profile you will stream at 0.3 Gig per hour instead of around 1 Gig per hour with a noticeable drop in picture quality.

flavoie, thank you for the heads up. I may have missed that setting after all these times and may be badmouthing Netflix for nothing. I have a deadline right now but afterwards I'll check my settings and if I make a mistake I'll rent another HD movie and report back here a.s.a.p.!!

thank you very much beforehand!
