Taking to the air as an independent broadcaster on October 31, 1960, CHAN became Vancouver's second OTA channel (channel 8) and one year later became a charter member of the new CTV Network, becoming "BCTV".
In 2001, a multi-station ownership/affiliation switcheroo in Vancouver saw CHAN become "Global BC" on channel 8, as CTV took over another independent broadcaster, VTV on channel 32, and Global's original station CKVU went through a few changes to eventually become Citytv Vancouver on channel 10. CHAN is carried by most BDUs as the western Global TV feed for time-shifting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHAN-TV CHAN is now also on 22.1 in the DTV era. Happy birthday CHAN! |

Global BC's website has an excellent retrospective of CHAN/BCTV:
