Default BCTV (now Global BC) Turns 50

Taking to the air as an independent broadcaster on October 31, 1960, CHAN became Vancouver's second OTA channel (channel 8) and one year later became a charter member of the new CTV Network, becoming "BCTV".

In 2001, a multi-station ownership/affiliation switcheroo in Vancouver saw CHAN become "Global BC" on channel 8, as CTV took over another independent broadcaster, VTV on channel 32, and Global's original station CKVU went through a few changes to eventually become Citytv Vancouver on channel 10.

CHAN is carried by most BDUs as the western Global TV feed for time-shifting.

CHAN is now also on 22.1 in the DTV era. Happy birthday CHAN!

Global BC's website has an excellent retrospective of CHAN/BCTV:
