Opera Mini for iPhone was officially submitted to the Apple iPhone App store today.

The speed is remarkable. Opera Mini is not a browser in the sense that Safari is because it uses proxy servers at Opera which call the page from the site, compress it and then render it to the iPhone.

This allows Opera to display websites (such as those with Flash) that couldn't be displayed by a traditional browser on the iPhone

It will be interesting to see whether Apple actually approves or denies it. Many are expecting them to deny it.

Opera claims it complies with Apple's SDK rules so here's hoping.

as one having it with blackberry... its a godsend.. i hope all iphone users get to experience it for yourselves.

I'm hoping it's released. There's been a lot of controversy over the browser, but Opera are saying that there's no duplication and should therefore be approved. If it isn't, there will be a huge backlash as there's already Safari alternatives on the iPhone.

One thing I don't like about this is that since this is using a proxy server, Opera will be able to cull the data of users surfing behaviour.

Don't know if this poses any big brother concerns or not.
