After the mess that was Spiderman 3, this is probably not a bad thing.

Maguire is 34 now. After 10 years, it gets harder to see him as kid photog Peter Parker. Good time to make the change.

Yeah, S3 was a disappointment. Nevertheless, the current franchise leaves any subsequent movie or franchise with big shoes to fill.
And too bad about Maguire leaving. Although I originally didn't think he'd make a good Spidey, I had to admit that he was perfect for the role, and I think he still looks youthful enough to pull off being Parker.

I think this is a bad move. S3 was a crappy movie, not because of Raimi but because of studio interference.
Raimi had always wanted S3 to be about The Sandman and Vulture, but the studio (Sony) insisted that Venom be the villain which meant that the whole movie required a rewrite that moved away from the director's vision. Raimi again wanted Vulture to be the main villain in S4, but again the studio interfered. They say they want a grittier and more contemporary version (like Batman) but for now it looks like S4 will probably be even worse than S3 (if that's at all possible) because it looks like it will be a movie done by committee. |

I am already geting tired of this reboot thing. Gritter and darker in the reboot?
Like every other reboot. Hollywood is getting super lazy no orgional ideas just keep on resetting the clock on TV shows and movies. By going darker and gritter they are appealing to exactly the same crowd know for every comic book movie. I guess grit is in Why not create something new and exciting how about all those other comic books they can make movies out of? What next? reboot SESAME STREET? Maybe they should use Joel Schumacher he does wonders for comic book franchises |
