Default Ipod Touch and Sending Email (Shaw)

Hi there,

I hope I am posting this in the right area. I was torn between this and the Shaw forum.

I have been fiddling around with an Ipod touch now for quite a while. I have managed to get it to receive mail on Shaw, but can not get it to send mail. I am connected through my Linksys router and can surf Safari fine, can receive mail fine, but can not send mail.

It gives me the error "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server shawmail.vc.shawcable.net failed..." I've tried it saying shawmail, you name it for the outgoing but it just won't work. Password is in, etc....

I can understand if I was trying to access my mail on someone else's network but this is through the same router that my computer is connected to Shaw - on my cable modem.

Thank you so much in advance for any tips, etc.

Very Frustrating....

Ditto !! In my case with my WM6 HTC Diamond, I read shaw but use the GMail SMTP server which is set up to issue mail with my shaw address as the Reply-To ... the end user generally doesn't know its coming through GMail.

That's pretty strange sith. When I saw the title of your post I assumed you were trying to send mail outside of Shaw's domain. This is a well known problem with Shaw that you have to use an alternate outgoing server when you are out of Shaw's internal domain. I've owned an ipod touch for well over 2 years and now have an iphone so I have had to deal with this for a long time. In fact, you weren't even able to receive Shaw mail on the ipod touch for quite a while. I used to forward all my Shaw mail to my gmail account (which the ipod Touch had no problems with).

To get back to your situation, I have no problems at all sending mail from home on either the iphone or ipod Touch. The server I use is shawmail.vc.shawcable.net. The only thing I could suggest is making sure you haven't' made a small spelling error in the outgoing server because it certainly should work.

Hi there,

Thanks again to everyone for responding..I just got it to work!
I tried resetting cable modem, router..figured maybe something was up with that, even enabled the ssid broadcast..still no dice.

I was about to go bonkers. I then went back into the settings for outgoing mail server and removed the username and password portion, leaving it blank for both.

Once I did that, it worked!

What a relief!

WOW that works . I really want to thank you a lot. I had configured my incoming mail but outgoing had escaped me. Does this work away from home but still on a shaw network? We have shaw at work and I am sure hoping that it does.

Default Can't send or receive emails

Good day! I have had my iPod for about 3 months now and all of a sudden, I can't receive my emails on it (Shaw). I absolutely can't send and have no clue why, but have tried everything that the Shaw website says to be able to receive them!
Please send help this way!!!

I get a message "Cannot get mail"..the mail server "pop.shaw.ca is not responding. verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.

Assuming you are trying to connect through a Shaw connection, you may want to change the incoming & outgoing servers to shawmail.xx.shawcable.net (refer to the dropdown list on Shaw's E-Mail support page to determine what this should be. For example, in Calgary it would be shawmail.cg.shawcable.net.

Hope this helps.

If you enable Mobile mail on Shaw's beta webmail page. Then all you have to do is have pop.shaw.ca for incoming and mail.shaw.ca for outgoing. This works whether you are connected through a Shaw connection or not.

Default No Webmail 2.0

There is no "Enable Mobile Webmail" in my version of Shaw Webmail !!! I signed up for Webmail 2.0 about a month ago but it still tells me to "Be Patient" !!! Cannot SEND email from my iPad.

Default Check your port settings!

Was setting up an account on an iPad 2 and found that POP and SMTP ports were really strange ones set as default.

Went into advanced settings for both the incoming and outgoing mail servers and matched each with a working iPod touch that was working, and POOF, the iPad 2 was working fine for e-mail. (using Cogeco Cable from home).

Hope this helps... :-)
