I recently had Telus receiver 9241 setup with a 3 year contract(free for 3 years). I find system responsive on HD and SD but, during heavy rain showers it looses signal.

What kind of signal strength do you get?
Rain fade does happen, even with a perfectly aligned dish, but it should be pretty rare. I only get it during VERY heavy storms, and then only for brief periods of time. My 91 transponders are almost all at 100% signal strength, while my 82 transponders are all in the upper 80s, which is pretty typical for my area. I'd expect strengths a little lower out west because of the shallower angle vs. the horizon to hit 82. TTYL |

The equipment does say Telus on it and my signal strength is 99 % on 91 and 78 % on 82. The signal strength Increases/decreases on different transponders. I have had no drop out since the extreme rain shower we had in NE Alberta. I had to call Telus because I am missing the movie channel package, I have not noticed any other problems.
Thanks, Cold PS. I had to program my Harmony remote for Bell and everything worked. |

At this point you can almost seperate TTV into two lines.
1. Bell TV signals and technology (Echostar) and 2. Telus customer service including pricing, packaging, tech support, etc. So anything TECH that applies to BTV also apples to TELUS. That said, it's long been known that BTV has worse rain fade than Shaw Direct. Mostly because of the technical difference between DBS (Circular) and DTH (Linear) amongst other factors. To make thinks worse, TTV is sold only in Alberta and BC, the 2 most Western provinces. BTV birds are the farthest East and lowest in the sky from this vantage point. Coupled with West Coast rains, it's a tricky combination at best. But not like they would jump into bed with Shaw Direct either. I guess Telcos, like Telcos. Had Starchoice not become Shaw Direct, Telus might have made a play for it before Shaw got all over Telus phone business. So far, other than the BTV downrez to 720p, I'm extremely happy with TTV compared to my former digital cable dropouts. I do think the PQ was superior on Shaw Direct though. As for billing and customer service, the install went fine and as a new subs, no experiences with support to report. |
