Default nüMaps Lifetime map updates from Garmin

Since we have a few threads on annual map updates I thought our members might be interested in Garmin lifetime updates package.

nüMaps Lifetime subscription lets you download the newest map data up to four times per year. No monthly fees or maintenance costs. It's the most comprehensive update plan you can buy. Subscriptions are available for purchase as a download or a gift card.

Be aware that this option ONLY allows you to get new maps 4 times a year if thier are new maps available. Just because it says you can get upadated maps 4 times per year, doesn't mean thier will be new maps that frequently.

Correct but if you use your device for 4 years this could mean up to 16 updates or a minimum of 4 updates since they do release annually.

YMMV.

I would only be interested if it was for maps like Metroguide Canada, which actually has detailed roads, parks and POI's for Canada..Unlike City Navigator..
Which is never updated unless you live in a major metro area.

Default Garmin Lifetime Maps

I checked into this and be aware that the lifetime option only applies
to that Garmin unit you have. If your current unit breaks down or is
lost or destroyed, the "lifetime" option is gone.

When I say "breaks down", you will either have to have the original repaired
which means you have to spend the $$ to repair it no matter what (if you want to maintain the lifetime maps or, in the case of my bro-in-law, they gave him a partial credit for a newer model (as his model was discontinued).

The "Lifetime" is then over as you have a different unit - it is not transferable even if you (obviously) buy another Garmin.

And no, my brother-in-law was not juggling his Garmin while sneaking shots
of whisky.... It just ceased working.

Yes that is pretty standard. It is the lifetime of the hardware. Not your lifetime.

The numaps lifetime is semi transferable. My 5 week old streetpilot with the numaps registered to it had the USB port come off. It took a week but Garmin eventually sent me a new black card with a new numaps number on it. The only drawback is they sent it UPS when I specifically asked them not to, so I got dinged about $40 in brokerage fees/GST on a warrenty item. GRRRR

City Navigator has updates in rural areas if they are reported. For example Where I have lived in the boonies for the past 43 years it had gravel roads in City Nav where I know for a fact they have been paved for 43 years.
I reported it online to the company responsible for the mapping in Canada, it took several updates but finally I notice on my latest update they are now marked as paved.

They cant update anything if they don't know about it.

Amazing the difference in a couple of years. This thread started out talking about subscribing to lifetime maps for $110 and now you can find units with lifetime maps and traffic included for less than that.
