Let's say you plan to spend around $2K or so on a new HDTV at FS, what sort of discounts can you expect if you're prepared to quibble for the best possible price?
(mods, I search for this topic but only found a 2003 thread in the archives)
Depends on what the price is relative to list. For example, a good sale price on a $2000 TV is probably $400-$600 off list, and you may not be able to negotiate further, once the price is that low, whereas, if the $2000 List TV is on for $2000, then huge negotiations are sometimes possible. This will depend on the store, salesperson, manager, etc.
They are also often willing to negotiate (more) on the TV/package if you're willing to purchase high margin items like cables, Surge Suppressors, Extended Warranty, etc.

The fishin rod is out big time! However, I was told the margin on HDTV is already fairly low compared to other item of the HT such as speakers, receivers etc...?
I have never been able to get any big discount from FS. My general rule of buying from FS/BB is that if the item is not on sale that week, you're probably paying too much for it.
I tend to agree with you... and same applies to BB. Normally I use FS sale price as a lever to buy elsewhere at the best price! So far it always worked.
