I'm beginning to be a bit resentful of the apparent mandate they have to bring out more pop-rock "family" friendly songs each week. This is supposed to be ROCK Band after all...

I'm still trying to figure out which tracks are pop-rock. Certainly not Slipknot (which in my opinion doesn't even qualify as music) and not Simon & Garfunkel (which seems more Classic or Folksy). I gave the Lights Revolve tracks a listen and it doesn't seem pop either; indie or alternative. In fact, I think it's the best track this week.

I can't wait until Rock Band Network goes live in earnest, hopefully in a few short weeks. Getting a small handful of releases every week (95% of which I don't care about) doesn't really work for me.
What I'm also wary about is how quickly these releases will be distributed to the PSN Store once they're available on MS/XBOX.
That one new song of theirs I heard is pretty good...

MTV Games is hoping to goose sales of its flagging "Rock Band" series with a new service Tuesday that lets average users upload and sell videogame versions of their own music.
The service, known as the Rock Band Network Store, may offer a few minutes of fame to rudimentary garage bands by allowing millions of game players to access their music.
My understanding (from previous articles I've read), is the authoring software itself costs about $1000, which really isn't that bad when you're talking about pro authoring software, but definitely not in the range where you'll get every teenage high school band jamming from their parents' garage furiously uploading their songs to RBN.
And of course on top of that, as pointed out above, there are currently only a handful of individuals/companies who have the requisite training/'certification' to work with the authoring tool.
• Blue Öyster Cult – “Godzilla”
• Blue Öyster Cult – “Transmaniacon MC”
• Hawkwind – “Master of the Universe”
• I Mother Earth – “Levitate”
• Motörhead – “Killed by Death '08”
• Nazareth – “Hair of the Dog” (2008 re-recording)
• Rage Against the Machine – “Bulls on Parade”
(All tracks are original master recordings)
These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and on Wii on Jan. 26. These tracks will be available Jan. 28 for PlayStation 3.
