That is a good question. The idea is that the bands themselves are releasing the tracks. But some of the bands on that list aren't indy acts. I guess distribution rights could come into play. I'll be testing it out when I get home tonight.

#342 ·
I had assumed that the last couple of months worth of super crappy DLC were because they were saving some really great stuff for the release of RBN. I guess I was wrong. Initial offers (for me) are sucktacular. The article mentions more Smashing Pumpkins in the pipe, so I guess I'll hold out for that.

#343 ·
I don't think the RBN is meant to compete with the regular music store. The only RBN track I picked up so far is one of the KMFDM songs. More as a tribute to the greatness that is the Mortal Kombat movie than anything else.

100 obscure songs means a lot of time to spend listening to previews. It's cool that a lot of the RBN songs have a demo you can download. I haven't tried that yet.

#346 ·
The popularity of the game is definitely on the decline. I think for most gamers, the novelty has worn off, but I personally see it a different way. The mechanics or basic premise of the gameplay isn't what drives it. For me, it's always been about the music. As such, it's a game I can see myself playing regularly for a long while.

I just hope that it doesn't fade into such a small, niche market that labels/artists no longer consider authoring DLC tracks as something worthwhile.

#347 ·
I still play it for the music as well. I think RB3 will revive the user base for a while. As long as HMX keeps backwards/forwards compatibility alive we should be fine...
