I rarely venture below channel 200, but I've started recording some old time KVOS programming such as Rockford Files and Bonanza for kicks. The problem is that reception for me on channel 30 is on the verge of being unwatchable. The picture is very grainy, colours are washed out and there is very little image detail. (Similar results on both a Panny plasma as well as an older 4:3 CRT) Does anyone have a decent KVOS picture? Is it KVOS or Shaw or me?

I took a look at the OTA forum and it seems that KVOS has one of the stronger OTA signals so I'm not sure where to begin looking for a culprit.

Suggestions anyone?

Hi All,

First post here, I'm new (Yes the username is from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

My beef, is that my Shaw box has recorded the wrong program twice when I've tried to record ENTOURAGE on HBOHD 243. The first time, instead of recording a NEW episode, as I have set on the series recording, it recorded a rerun.

Recently, it recorded some other show in its place, even though when you hit INFO, it lists the new Entourage episode description and in the Recordings list, it shows Entourage. I then said screw it, I'll record the second heat 3 hours later. That recording was GOLFHD Donald Trump's World of Golf.

Anyone else having this issue, and maybe hopefully know the fix??

Thanks.

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

I've done some searching on the forum, and got some good information but I thought I'd start a new thread to get the answers I am looking for directly.

Here's the basics;

We ONLY have shaw regular cable coming into the house in the basement. We have our phone & internet thru a different provider in Calgary.

I have already run R6 cable throughout the house and attached the connectors. Some jerk on craigslist sold me a bunch of antenna splitters saying they would work great... they are the super cheap radio shack ones. I tried them and at the second TV location the signal goes to crap!!

Here's the basic layout;

Cable enters basement

2 way splitter (tv & main line) (there is already a 3way splitter installed here. It says in - 3db out, 7db out and 7db out. Not sure if this needs to be replaced?)

35 feet of R6

2 way splitter (tv & main line)

30 feet of R6

2 way splitter(tv & main line)

10 feet of R6

(cable ends at optional TV that may or may not be put in).

So here are my questions;

1) Can I test with a multimeter how strong the original signal is that comes into the house? If so, how?

2) What kind of splitters do I need? I read a bunch of information about different mhz 5 - 900 or 5 - 2300 (something like that anyways). Will I need amplifiers to boost the signal?

3) Anyone know where in Calgary, AB these can be purchased?

Lastly, I'm committed to doing this without Shaw cable coming over. I'm already this far in, and am typically never home during the hours that Shaw would do a service call.

Thanks for any input! Can't wait to get this all sorted out.

How do I wire my bedroom TV to Shaw Cable, my bedroom has no outlet. I live alone in an apartment that allows you to do your own renovations to it as long as you don't paint the walls, so on the other side of the wall, there's a cable TV outlet. Could I possibly get back in there and put a splitter going from the other side of that wall plate and make 2 cable outlets? If so, how. I'm not really a handyman. Thanks for help in advance!

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about moving my TV service and I was wondering if you would share what kind of deals you have from Shaw.

I currently have Shaw Direct, MTS Internet, and MTS phone. I am thinking about either moving my TV over to MTS, or moving all three over to Shaw.

What I like about MTS is the Whole Home PVR thing. I have 3 HDTV's and I don't want to have to buy 3 HDPVR's.

Any ideas on what kind of deal I can get from Shaw? Any killer promotions that are not advertised?

Thanks.
