Rogers Communications today announced its preliminary subscriber statistics for December 31st, 2008 and the unaudited numbers suggest the media giant had yet another stellar year in 2008.

In the fourth quarter, Rogers reported wireless subscriber additions that were in line with expectations (despite disappointing iPhone sales), but their cable results were weaker than expected. The cable division added just 17,000 new high-speed Internet customers and a mere 1,000 new telephone customers, both far shy of Mr. Lambert's expectations for 50,000 new high-speed customers and 45,000 new telephone customers.
He believes this could be the start of a "pendulum swing" from cable companies to telecommunications companies during 2009, as the telcos get more competitive with bundle pricing on a number of services.

Don't bet on a pendulum swing. Bell is still very much in disarray, and hasn't shown a lot of interest in being competitive.
