: Telus TV - upgrade STB boxes to HD? Possible?

This is my first thread ever on a site. Please be patient with me if I did something wrong.

I was a test site for Telus TV and GPON (Fibre) in Alberta and I have 2 STB boxes and 1 HD box installed. I live in a new area that had Fibre to the door so I also have Fibre Internet 25 or 30 Mbps?

Does anybody know of anyway I can upgrade a STB box to a HD box without having Telus involved? They are the same boxes (STB and HD STB) - it just must be the programming that was entered at set up? I have tons of bandwidth.

I don't want Telus involved as they are currently not charging me for this service. Would hate to reintroduce myself to them if they have forgotten me. These long forgotten trials are awesome.

WOuld like to have more HD as I have 3 HD TV's.

Is this possible?

Without involving TELUS there is no way for you to do it yourself.

Even involving TELUS there would be difficulties in enabling an account for more than one HD box as the software systems aren't currently configured to allow it.

Telus's new offers support 2 HD boxes. I found that on their Web Site.

"Telus's new offers support 2 HD boxes. I found that on their Web Site."

Nope. They don't. You're probably being tripped up by the statement of "2 FREE HD-ready digital box rentals, including 1 HD-ready PVR". "HD-ready" is confusing.

From their FAQ. "We provide you with up to 2 digital boxes (only one of which can be enabled for HD). The other box will support SD channels."

At some future time, they will probably be able to support two HD streams, at which time the second box will work. But that time isn't right now.

Yep. The boxes are HD capable, but they cant/dont provide the bandwidth yet to give you 2 HD signals at one time yet. Installer told me in the next year or two is when we can hope to get that ability.

I have 3 SA330's installed in my house (working) off of Telus. Could I purchase a SA430 (not from Telus) and have it work on my system? When I plug in a SA430 (purchased New elsewhere) into my Telus Network will it work? Will it update the Software to Telus if it is on a LIVE network? Or does TELUS need to modify every box to work on their system?

Its a long story but I can't go to Telus for an upgrade from my SA330s but I want PVR capability.

Thanks

I don't think you can. Don't you have to call TELUS after installation to activate each box? So if the box is not from TELUS, they won't activate it AFAIK.

As discussed in several of these Telus threads and as mentioned in the post above, you cannot use outside STBs.

I currently have Telus TV and 3 Active Set Top Boxes (IPN330 - 2 Standard and 1 HD)
I have purchased a IPN430MC Telus box from an individual that no longer has the Service. I am trying to activate this PVR on my Telus TV Network.

It runs the Software Updates but then asks me for a ACTIVATION CODE.

Can anybody tell me if there is a way to enter a Activation Code without calling Telus for it? Is it a standard code or is it specific to this unit?

I cannot call TELUS (long story).

Do I give up or is there a way to make this HD PVR work at my house.

Thanks

You won't be able to activate it without having a PVR activation code registered to your system account.

It's not specific to units or a standard code. The codes are linked to your account so if you cannot call TELUS then you may as well give up.

If you are under Minerva, you could use a reg code from one of your 330's. Problem is the 430 would just act like a 330 then.

Without a call to Telus nothing can be done.

fatguy21, you've started 3 separate threads about getting more Telus TV services without paying for them, so I've merged them.

This site does not condone piracy discussions. Please review the forum rules under the HELP tab.

I have actually started 2 threads.

I am not pirating Telus, they gave me the service and set me up as a test house. I have done nothing illegal, they just don't currently bill me for services (never did) and I am not about to tell them they need to.

They are free to drop me from this service or even contact me to pay for it. It is their choice.

Saying I am some type of a pirate is not fair you may want to ask a few more questions before you "title" me.

I am not looking for more services I am looking to add additional devices to my current service.

Thanks

I use Bell Satellite for my main service and pay them monthly.

You are right 3 Threads. Sorry

I had read all your posts and understood that Telus were providing you the services and not billing you. That doesn't necessarily make you a pirate. However if you asking how to bypass Telus' security measures you are getting very close to the line.

I think your question has been answered by the previous posters.

Bypassing Telus security measures?

I did not know that a Activation Code was security?
I thought maybe it was my something as simple as my "Phone Number" or "Telus" or "Password" or "Admin" not something that was set up to block additional devices being added to the system. When TELUS came into my house they entered that infomation themself and did not leave me with any codes.

Now I know (thanks to people like random2k) that it is security and with that information I now understand the set-up and will stay with what I have until Telus contacts me.

Once again I feel as though your words that describe me as some type of scammer are unjustified, I was simply asking if I can add my own devices to a Telus Activated Service and the answer is NO. I came into the forum to get the answer and it was received.

you'll have to excuse most people for describing you as a scammer or potential pirate as you started the thread(s) stating you couldn't contact telus and you didn't want them to start billing you for something they gave you for free and you'd hoped they forgot about you so they wouldn't start.. good faith my friend.. good faith...
