I finally finished my home theatre last month. It is a modest setup but we are happy with it. Here are some pics. The cables looked a lot better after Visions finished setting up everything, but I added the cable box and Wii myself and messed averything up.

Looks good, except I'd do something about the wires hanging behind your equipment.. (You can buy plastic wire channels to make things neater).
I like the movie posters.. Nice touch for a home theater room :)

Ya, that is what my wife tells me just about everytime we go down there to watch a movie. She says it looks quite messy.
Would it improve my base if I put the sub on the floor? Visions put it on the shelf and told me it won't make a difference. I always thought it would be better on the floor though.

Looks great! Simple but effective. I am going for pretty much the same thing myself when I start construction in the New Year.

Aren't you getting vibrations through the cabinetry with it on a shelf? Yes, I agree it should be on the floor.

Sub will sound better on the floor. Try it in different positions, but generally: in a corner, on the longest wall in the room.

Set-up looks very nice - you've done a great job. One question though - was there a reason for setting the TV up so high in the wall? It would seem to induce some neck strain having to tilt your head up all the time (like mounting it over a fireplace).
Was just curious, since you seemed to have a blank slate to work from.

I have my 50" plasma above my fireplace -despite hearing a lot of people against it. The shape and layout of the room kind of dictated it.
There's absolutely no issue with it at all. No neck strain in the least and it isn't the least bit uncomfortable.

I wasn't involved with the design of the cabinet. My wife worked with the contractor on that. It actually doesn't bother us when we are watching a movie. It is pretty close to eye level.

I made a lot of mistakes with this setup. I had very limited knolwedge of setting up home theatres. My contractor, who did the basement, had even less than me. So it was up to me to do the pre-wiring. There is a lot I would changed if I had to do it again.
If you don't tell anyone about the mistakes no one will know...
Looks great if you ask me:)
