: Is there a difference between HDMI cables?

I own Rocketfish HDMI cables and seem to be quite happy with them. Recently a friend of mine called me up and advised me that he could get me these Monster ULTV1000HD cables which normally cost five times as much for a really really good price. he says they are so much much better for 120hz televisions etc etc. I have never had problem with the rocketfish.

My question is, is it really worth going out and buying all new cables when what I have is still good. Will I really see any benefits or is this just a selling feature by monster.

Do a search here and you'll find plenty of discussions about Mon$ter.

The cooper brothers have got their own thread going. :)

Cooper83 has got it right, there is no benefit to paying the extra $$ to Mon$ter.

If you have a very long cable then there is a benefit to getting a thicker gauge wire, but that only applies to very long runs but even that doesn't mean you need Mon$ter.

I'm gonna take a guess and say he's 5 years older than I.

Here's a thread on the topic: There is no reason to purchase expensive cables for most short (under 25') connections.

If you haven't already, check out the following post, useful for those new to the forum:

I will agree with your assement about Monster. They are over priced for what you get. Having said that they are better cables than rocketfish and if you are getting them for a cheaper price than the listed price I will say go for it.

As for spending money on expensive cables, it all comes down to what type of equpitment you are using. Trust me cables does make a difference. Don't tell me Rocket fish cable and Tara labs cable are the same. They are not and you can see a difference but it goes in hand with the rest of the equpitment.

GMach1 Before saying things like:
Trust me cables does (SIC) make a difference.I suggest you read the first link in post 5 and the links near the bottom of post 1 of that link where it has been proven by several independents that for HDMI cables under 25', there is no difference (same for most good analogue cables). Even for cables that are longer than 25', there are sources for good cables that are much less expensive than the "luxury" brands.

Since we have that existing thread (and several others discussing HDMI cables), I'm closing this one.
