This was random as I saw it on CBS while watching football this afternoon, I'm surprised the reporter managed to throw both of his shoes without security getting involved after the first one was thrown.
bolmsted 2008-12-15, 01:09 AM It looks like he had both shoes ready to go and they were thrown within seconds of each other... it would be totally unexpected for a reporter to be doing this... especially to westerners that know the cultural intricacies such as the sole of the shoe being the ultimate insult.
I can just imagine if this was the shoe bomber. :p They did report this was "the end"
eljay 2008-12-15, 07:35 AM I was quite amused when I heard about this. Bush and company deserve a lot more than a loafer or two to the head, but that would've been a good start.
Any word yet on whether the shoes were labelled "made in Iran"? ;)
biglyle 2008-12-15, 07:44 AM I am going to miss GWB. The man is a lot of things but there is no denying he has personality. He was chuckling after he dodged the 2 shoes and looks like he didnt care at all. Funny stuff.
He also has the best quote I have ever heard. When visiting Canada a short time acter the Iraq war started he was greeted with a loud ovation of Boo's and many people flipping the bird. When GWB got to the podium he said "I want to thank everyone for coming out her today and waving, especially those who used more than 1 finger."
Onslow 2008-12-15, 02:20 PM It looks like he had both shoes ready to go and they were thrown within seconds of each other...In Iraq the Muslim men wear loafers because you must remove your footwear when entering a home or especially a mosque. You see this in Japan and Korea too since shoes are removed at restaurants as well as in homes and temples.
If Dick Cheney had thrown them Bush would have a huge welt on his face by now! :D
biglyle 2008-12-15, 02:28 PM If Dick Cheney had thrown them Bush would have a huge welt on his face by now!
Cheney would have thrown one and had a heart attack bending down to get the second.
Nanuuk 2008-12-15, 02:34 PM Just goes to show the progess they've made. Shoes are definitely better than RPG's.
scrooloose 2008-12-15, 02:38 PM Perhaps I watch too much television, but I was surprised how slow Bush's security was to respond. I thought that someone would have jumped in front of him immediately (not that he's worth taking a hit for, but if that's the job...). Anyway, good reflexes on him.

PokerChip 2008-12-15, 02:39 PM The progress they've made? Obviously, he did note have anything else to throw at Bush since every reporter in the room must have been searched very thoroughly.
I suppose things would be much better if Saddam Hussein were still around...
I don't think this was funny at all. And I disagree with more than one aspect of the current US foreign policy...
eljay 2008-12-16, 11:15 AM So that's how he did it! :p
i hate tv 2008-12-16, 11:44 AM Very effeminate.
I expect if he was any closer he would have hit him with his purse....
I have never, ever seen a man take his shoes off, and throw them at someone.
I've seen it happen a few times on Maury Povich/Jerry Springer type shows, but those women always took their ear rings first, as the ladies know that fists will be flying once the shoe(s) hit the ground.
Onslow 2008-12-16, 11:50 AM I dare you to say that in Iraq, then we'll see who is effeminate. I still cannot believe how lackadaisical the Secret Service guys seemed to be.
Felgar 2008-12-16, 12:01 PM I can't believe no one's quoted Austin Powers... "Who throws a shoe? Honestly!" :D
I thought the secret service acted pretty fast... They would have known no one had a weapon capable of causing harm, so they already would have been relatively at ease and not poised to shoot anyone. Then he threw the two shoes in quick succession, and by the time he released the second, he was already being pulled on from behind. Less than 1 second response time and they probably had to get through part of the media crowd...
i hate tv 2008-12-16, 12:05 PM Well, Iraq is on my vacation to do list.
We are hitting all the to go spots...Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Somalia (my son LOVES Pirates!):D
There is nothing effiminate about me, and I would gladly say it one on one, to anyone, and if they had a problem, its theirs.
I was just stating how funny it is, for a grown man, to be doing things, that in North America, are tradionally done by women. If anyone wants to fight me because of that, fine, but they better have some heavy shoes, because if I'm not knocked out with the first toss, in the words of Russel Peter's dad "somebody gonna get a hurt", and it won't be me
Onslow, you remind me of a Pirate
I'm getting some JackSparrow vibes....I don't know why...
Onslow 2008-12-16, 12:06 PM Piracy is not discussed at this site. :)
i hate tv 2008-12-16, 12:15 PM I can't believe no one's quoted Austin Powers... "Who throws a shoe? Honestly!" :D
Hahaha, I love Austin Powers, and can't believe I forgot that one!:D
I guess there are cultural differences that we see as strange, but are normal to other cultures, and vice versa...
To finish Austins quote "That really hurt! I'm gonna have a lump there, you idiot! Who throws a shoe? Honestly! You fight like a woman! ..."
See, I'm not the only one who sees this "violent act" a wee bit lady like...
jwt873 2008-12-16, 11:30 PM I honestly expected to see an online flash game designed around the incident... I wasn't wrong. It only took a couple of days for someone to come up with one :)
