I agree that what Alpert said to Locke about the compass was the best, maybe the best line ever on Lost.

As others have said this episode opens up a lot of possibilities. One thing that annoyed me was that the producers said they would be more answers than questions this season. I have way more questions that I did 24 hours ago. Here is what I think will happen (with spoiler tags for those who haven't seen it yet)

They will all head to Jack or Ben. He already has Sayid, Kate will come to him for help and Sun will come to Ben to kill him. That only means that they have to get Hurley out of prison. The whole thing of finding everyone should be way easier then Ben thinks.

Why spoilerize theories?

I thought it was OK, but not great.

As for my parents, they ended up getting ABC (and dropping some other stuff they didn't watch -- apparently Videotron lets you pick and chose) but missed the show because apparently they had parental lock set on their TV (and didn't even know it until they got the ABC feed). It's being shown again on Saturday, same time, in case anyone else missed it.

I thought it was a great episode and am looking forward to another great season. Despite all the detractors out there, I think this show has gotten stronger every season!

Just so nobody will get mad at me if they haven't seen the episode. I don't know why anybody would be reading this thread, if they haven't saw the episode yet though.

Excellent episode! I think Lost has been especially great since an end date was announced. I was surprised to see Anna Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) since I thought she was let go from the show under somewhat dubious circumstances (drunk driving?).

As an aside.....
Maybe Heroes should take an example from Lost and BSG and set an end date for the series. That might help bring it back to season 1 quality.

I truly enjoyed the season opener. To tell you the truth, I was about to give up on this show, due to all the mess that was introduced last season. But the new one got me back to the altar :) It's becoming somewhat I like the most in sci-fi - time travel and alien technologies :)
I watch it free of the air - beautiful picture, no drop-offs whatsoever.

I'm still annoyed with all the jumping backwards/forwards in time. The "3 years earlier" or similar text only helps if you have a clue as to when they are basing this value on. Similarly, jumping forewards or backwards without putting up the notice only adds to the confusion.

The easy was of thinking of it is, everything that is happening off the island is happening three years after they left it. While everything that is happening on the island, is taking place in random times that nobody can follow.

Including flashbacks to the 70's. BTW, any guesses who the baby is (or was?)

I read somewhere that the baby was *not* oriental. I'll have to re-watch (it recorded the repeat on Saturday so I still have it). If the baby is a girl, with red hair and blue eyes, we can all make an educated guess. But that's probably too simple.

The baby was not oriental, and it could not have been conceived on the island (as we know).

"Oriental"...??? What's next - are you going to ask what happened to the "Negro fella" with the young 'un?

People, we're living in the 21st century now. You might want to mix the term "Asian" into your vocabulary.

Haha, Nuje, I was going to write a very similar post. I have to correct my aunt nearly every time I see her, as "oriental" is still very much in her vocabulary. Keep in mind, though, that in other parts of the world, "oriental" is still very much accepted and not considered offensive/non-PC.

Back to the topic...I've deleted it from my PVR, and I can't for the life of me remember any baby in the season opener! Could somebody please refresh my memory? I checked the Wikipedia page and they didn't make any mention of a baby.

From what I recall
Claire was pregnant and gave birth to Aaron. Charlie tried to help raise the baby while on the Island
She then gave the baby to Kate to take off the island, I believe Claire then died later, but who knows these days who is dead and who is not dead.

I think the baby in question here is not Claire's son, but Pierre Chang's baby who was in the opening minutes of the first episode:

Oriental is offensive? The only issue with it is that it means Eastern, which is incorrect in certain places of the world (it's a very Euro-centric term). But is Asian any more correct? Most of Russia is in Asia. My mother was born in Siberia. Does that make her Asian? Technically, yes, but not in the way most people think.

Honestly, did I offend anyone? If I did I apologize.

I was definitely offended by the way you treated me, though, and it has nothing to do with race.

Hard to tell, but doesn't look like the baby is red-haired and blue-eyed. Charlotte thinks she was born on the Island so that's what I was aiming at. I don't think the baby is Charlotte. Too bad.

Please shake hands and be done. No offence was intended I'm sure by either party, so let's move on and keep to the topic at hand.

Thanks
