I noticed some lag during channel changes so I decided to unplug the cable box. I came back to it a day later and plugged it back in. The LED does not light up and it does not get hot. I have tried different outlets and power cables and the box will not turn on. Since this is a purchased(July 2006) box rogers will only sell or rent me another one. I am looking for a place in Ottawa to get it repaired. Thank you

Honestly, it is worth just keeping an ear to the ground for sales as you can find HD terminals at reasonable prices on a fairly regular basis. Even if you could find a place to have it repaired, the cost would most likely not make it worth your while. Ask Rogers for a promo (free rental for 6 mos, 1 year) and use that time to sniff out a bargain.

Sony Style right now is selling the 3250HD and 4250HD for $99 each. No tv purcharse. The PVR is going for $299.

Before you buy, I would suggest you carefully examine the prongs where you are trying to plug the 3250 back in. You may have bent a prong when you tried to re-plug it in before. If this is the case, it should be simple to straighten it with a pair of needle-nosed pliers and try plugging it in again.
If you are lucky, it's a lot cheaper than a new box.

Thank you for the advice. The prongs are not bent. I checked that first. I tried another cord from a friend with the same HD box and still no power gets to the box.
I have ruled out faulty cords and power outlets. The HD box was on and frozen when i unplugged it. I left it unplugged for a day before plugging it back in so there was not a possible surge.
I am annoyed that Rogers will not direct me to an authorized repair shop. Their only suggestion has been to rent or buy a new one
Here's a link to repair, however, as mentioned previously in this thread, these are currently on sale for under $100, and a repair shop may charge that much or more...

Not sure if this even possible, but one thing that may be worth at least a shot is hooking it all up, calling Rogers and seeing if you can get them to send the lastest firmware to the box, assuming they can even ping it. Perhaps it somehow got corrupted?

gmacdon: If I were in your situation I would now use my plug-in energy meter to check and see if the STB is drawing ANY current at all.
If it is drawing power then I would be looking at purchase or rental because that would suggest to me that it is something on the circuit board.
If it isn't drawing power then I would open it up (after removing the power cord of course) and check for any loose connections inside. I would also unplug and replug all pluggable connectors inside.
If this is unsuccessful then I would seek help from my more techie friends. I would figure at this point that even if we break it I haven't lost anything.
Good luck
