Hello,

I have these light fixture in dining room (I think it is called chandelier) with about 8 x 40 watt incandescent bulbs on a dimmable switch. Is it okay to replace some of these incandescent bulbs with CFL lamps? What will happen if I dim the chandelier, will it still dim the remaining incandescent bulbs, what will happen on the CFL lamps?

Thank yoiu,
Jun

You have to use special CFL's called "dimmable CFL"s
However they don't work like traditional bulbs - they'll dim in stages rather than a gradual dimming.

Do not, and I repeat do not try regular CFLs with a dimmer. My father-in-law did, and they blew very quickly.

If you search for "CFL* dimmer" (or similar), you'll find several previous threads on this topic.

a lot of people do not know the concequences of using CFLs with dimmers. they start to buzz when you dim them and can burn out or cause a fire i heard
