: SBGH vs. 4-bay bowtie reflector?

Hi. Is there a big difference between the performance of a SBGH and a 4-bay bowtie with a reflector? I've made a DIY bowtie and am using it now getting around 16-20 channels. Would things be noticably better with a GH-type antenna?

Thanks

That question can only be answered by building one and comparing your results in your identical situation. Your signals may be so strong that you may not notice any difference. In my case, I can say the SBGH performs better than any 4 bay bowtie antenna Ive ever owned, and Ive had a few.
Ive recently been comparing mine to a yagi style folded dipole uhf antenna and this commercial corner reflector model. The SBGH provides significantly superior performance for me. Im planning on building the DBGH later on, after testing and thinking about improvements found here and any ones I think of.

Falcon1987,
Commercial 4-bays (like CM4221) are aimed at the full UHF channel range, 14-83. Of necessity, the peak gain is at the high end of that range. SBGH is aimed more squarely at the 14-51 channel range we'll have in the US starting next Feb. As such, it will outperform the commercial units below Ch 50-60, but seriously under perform above that channel range. It's a very reasonable tradeoff.

The question then becomes what size 4-bay did you make?
