Just checked their website, but there's no pricing yet. Since its the same as the DTVPAL DVR I'm hoping this will be similar cost. If its much more, I guess I'll trade off the local support for the cheaper DTVPAL PVR version.

Check the warranty coverage for Canada before you do that. If the prices are close then for that important issue I'd go with saveandreplay. Send them an email for a price quote.

Heard from V&E Antenna that they'll be selling it for about $500. Crazy.

Sears USA stores are liquidating their stock of the DTVpal DVR. I just bought a second one for $199 plus $30 for a two years replacement warranty. It was a returned unit. The batteries were already installed in the remote. It appears to work fine and came with the latest firmware. They say they'll replace it with a gift card for the purchase price if it quits before the two years are over. This price beats the Channel master version coming this month.

Can Canucks buy from Sears USA ?

You can not buy directly from the USA web site. You need a USA billing address to order and they will not ship to Canada. If you can drive down to a store located close to the border you can buy it in store. This is what I did. I would suggest you call first to verify that they still have one before making the trip. I declared it at customs and paid GST and PST on the purchase price.

I recently read that the legal battle between TiVo and Dish Network (DTVPal) could result in the disabling of certain functions like instant replay and commercial skipping. The article wasn't very specific.
It seems to me that the only way the could do this is via the LAN connection.
So, just to be on the safe side, disconnecting the DTVPal from the internet would be a wise idea. It doesn't need to be connected to function properly.
This would avoid any "surprises" down the road.

The CM7000PAL is now shipping in Canada with a price around the $400 range .It comes with 1yr warranty .Unlike Tivo ,channelmaster warranties the hardware sold in Canada

The advantage over Tivo is there's no monthly charge associated with it so your cost is the initial investment only .I'm told once registered with Channelmaster any future firmware enhancements could be accessed at no additional charge

Since Channelmaster has the rights now ,when the DTV PAL stock is sold off only the Channelmaster product will be offered .

Here's a link to one of the reviews -

Anyone's that's has access to Dish VIP ird at some point should be familiar with the remote layout .

Shipping, Duties and the importers fees.
No, It's not right. but its realistic.
I found the same problem but worse, with car stereo equipment. I bought most of it online from the US, fully realizing i was quite willing to go without a canadian warantee.
Same with car parts, i could go on, but this is probably the wrong place for it. Oh yeah, one Bell PVR was 'on-sale' for 489, the other was the full 599, but came with a harmony remote. 400 isn't out of line for a dual tuner DVR.

Back to the topic @ hand, I got to try out the new CM7000PALDVR, It worked great, tuned and recorded and played back as advertized. It does nothing to fill in the guide for the stupid stations who can't be bothered to figure out how to post info. City Event # 43875 means nothing to me, so i don't watch them.
Timer recording is very simple. Pick a show you want and press record, it creates a timer, then gives you the choice to record daily, weekly or whatever. Pause live tv is great, then playback, skipping commercials. Gotta love it!
IMHO, It could use a firmware update. It's missing a search funtion. And it's missing name based recording. And it's missing external hard drive support. And it has an e-net port, you could hook it up, but since it doesn't do anything, yet, its not worth the cable.
And one more good note, it says 250G drive, 30 hours HD record time. But the one I tested says over 35 hrs HD record time left. I suspect the ran out of 250's and put in 300's.

Checking the usual suspects in the US, best price I am finding on the Cm is $320, with most prices around the 350-400 mark. $400Cdn seems very reasonable to me to not have to deal with cross border warranty issues.

In a previous life, that's what I did for a living, and I can assure you that's not realistic on the B2B level. As an individual consumer importing a product, perhaps, but that's not the cost structure a business would face.

Duties would be zero.

Importers fees (aka brokerage) is per shipment, so if you brought a 20-foot container of these in, it would still cost you less than $100 for the whole lot.

Shipping again is negligible if you bring these in LTL or via container.

On top of all of this, the product has been in the market over a year now, so the cost-out efforts and component reductions alone should make it a wash.

Best canadian deal I've found is 399$ CAD with free shipping.

Channel Master has said that this is their set pricing for the unit .Those that are selling this unit in the US for greatly reduced pricing in most cases don't have stock and may fine they don't have access to the product .

Also take into consideration TIVO wants $300-400 for their hardware and $12.95 a month to use it.The Channelmaster unit price is the final cost

Since the unit is now available in Canada thru the dealers for those looking for a DVR its a nice option .

Anyone thats brought a higher priced item into Canada knows there are costs associated to factor in for the trouble .

There have been some used ones for sale around here

Since the Channelmaster version just started shipping ,I would think thats referring to the DTV Pal which had a 90 days warrranty and is based on what you can find as its no longer produced.

refurb'd Tivo HD's (see Tivo site) are going for $99 (the smaller hard drive version) plus monthly fees. I considered getting the 7000PAL but ended up getting the Tivo. 2 years of Tivo for the price of a 7000PAL is a good start for me.

It's too bad DISH/Echostar never got behind this product and just let it wither and die. It had a lot of promise.

I relegated mine (bought within a few weeks of the launch) to the small upstairs tv where it will live out its days, while a new TiVo Premiere took its place by the main tv.

Hi there group!

I have the 7000 working for quite some time now in Port Perry and get quite a number of channels from CBC, CFTO, GLOBAL, OMNI, AND also 17 and 23 out of Buffalo area.

What I want to know from others is do you get the guide info from CFTO on your receiver or are they just lazy? Other channels provide one week of programming, but CFTO only pushes a few hours ahead. I emailed and phoned CFTO a few weeks ago when the guide was out of sync by an hour and with a reply to me, they did correct it. Great!

Now I find that there is no guide from them at all? I've sent two emails, but I don't know if a phone call is requred as I don't know what fixed it last time.

The 7000 only allows you to put in a zip code so I've tried experimenting with different zip codes, but doesn't seem to do any different.

Any feedback from other members would be interesting.

Thanks to all!
