Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.B) says it won't step into the highly competitive wireless industry just yet, despite spending nearly $200 million earlier this year to gain access to the mobile phone and data market

So they bought the spectrum in hopes of reselling to someone else or to block others?

Maybe, but they also might have gotten spooked from the way the economy is going right now.

When you are making $1 billion plus a year, the recession is the best time to invest.

Building the network now would be much cheaper than when the boom was on and since it takes a few years to build, it makes to start now.

Videotron is expected to spend $300 to $500 million to build their network which is much larger so for Shaw to build a network for their areas it might be a few hundred million.

That's only a few months profit!

hugh,

I agree with you. Not sure why they wouldn't enter the market. I, for one, am dissapointed. I was looking forwarded to dropping my current cell phone provider and using Shaw for wireless. I guess I will have to hope that GlobalLive will get their network up and running.

I would imagine since Shaw would be building a network from scratch they are probably waiting for LTE
