As I said earlier, look in the Deep Fringe column of the Antenna Chart. You should be able to do a 1-for-1 swap of your present antenna with a Delhi 936 with the UHF upgrade kit. Here is the Antenna Chart link again, to the lower right in this post.

Once you've done that, check out this thread for finding OTA Gear in Ontario:

Here are my current results with a single CM4228 located on a 6ft pole on my deck (backslpit gives desk line of sight clear of houses) stuck in a table with straight run of new RG6 (~45ft).

Aimed at Toronto using Samsung LNS-4692D (current conditions Overcast -6 C)

5-1 5 bars
6 snowy, shadow
9 clear
9-1 3 to 4 bars
11 clear
13 poor color , (3 shadow)
18-1 5 bars
19 clear
25 clear
25-1 0-1 bars (not reliable)
28 mild shadow/reflections
36 mild shadow/reflections
41 clear
47 clear
52 snow but clear
56 poor color , (3 shadow)
57 snow but clear
61 scrambled

I have tried aiming towards buffalo/Hamilton, however i have the neighbors roof half in the way. While aiming I was able to get the following additional stations (i lose most of the reliable Toronto stations)

23
36-1 4 Bars
WGRZ -1 and -2 only once by accident on a clear day :(

This is not the ideal setup, but enough to convince me to invest in equipment. I should be pretty good with a higher mount point with motor+amp, also considering stacking another CM for the NY stations

Hi Canada;
I have had pretty good luck with my Channel Master 4228 from Neutron Electronics in Guelph. They are knowledgeable guys (about the equipment they sell, maybe not quite up to speed on the OTA thing). I bought my 4228, a 7777 pre-amp and a roll of RG6 from them. I get decent reception from Heidelberg for the Toronto stations. Less so for Buffalo. I am exactly 100 km from the CN tower.

My HD8800 seems to be broken on my rooftop. so I am bit unhappy about it. Currently wondering whether to replace it with SBGH ( in which case willl need to seriously think about materials to use so that it does not meet same fate ) or to just go get a CM-4228 from someplace... every year we seem to be hit with atleast couple of cases of high winds ( gusts upto 80kms )

So far my 4228 seems to have survived high winds unscathed. It sits on a standard 1970s TV tower about 40 feet high so I assume it gets the full force of any winds.

Installed a generic Chinese-made 4-bowtie UHF antenna (ANT-HD16 with 10-13db gain) with CM-7777 pre-amp at my Mom's apartment just north of downtown Kitchener. She's on the 5th floor, and facing to the East.

We're getting the following stations with excellent reception:

Can anyone receive anything but analog in Orangeville Ontario?
If you do please let me know what equiptment you are using.
Currently I have the Channel Master 4228HD antennae.
I was figuring I need a preamp?
Any information or help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

xsivspd:

I have a 4228 and a 7777 preamp and I'm 100 km from the CN tower. I get CBC and CTV reliably, CITY comes and goes. The centre of Orangeville is 65 km from the Tower so I would assume you will get good reception with a preamp. If you are in a valley or have a big building in your way you may be out of luck though.

Isn't Orangeville in a valley?
If you live in the valley, you may obviously have issues....

xsivspd,

I live on Wellington Street in Orangeville and I'm currently receiving 13 digital channels with very good reception. I have an old Radio Shack UHF/VHF outdoor antenna(long range) that I purchased about 20 years ago with a Radio Shack antenna amplifier. I ran 75ohm coax from the antenna to TV. I just purchased the STBT8 TIVAX Digital TV Converter Box which I like. Easy to use(would be nice if you can add a digital station by entering the channel number without running an "Add Scan"). My antenna rotator started malfunctioning for the first time so I'm having difficulty aiming. I expect to to get more channels when the rotator is fixed.

Some questions for you:

What kind of antenna
is it outdoors
if so how high up
how long is the coax cable length
any splitters or other things lowering the coax cable's signal
are you in a valley or surrounded by big trees or other obstructions
Thanks :)

Okay, first the blunt news: you have got to replace that antenna. Hopefully you can get your money back. You will need a much better antenna, so either you could build yourself a Gray Hoverman (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=81982) or you could buy an 8-Bay UHF antenna as seen in the Antenna Chart: ----------------------------------------->

TomatoesYUM: You definitely need to get the antenna outside. A good pre-amp (such as the CM7777) is necessary as well. Since you're in Guelph, you can check out Neutron Electronics for the pre-amp, coax, connectors, etc. They also carry Channel Master antennae.

TomatoesYUM: I am just south of you and have a 1980's Channel Master antenna, rotor, preamp combo installed by Tom's of Rockwood. It is about 30 feet high. With my Sony Bravia I get the following digital stations with excellent picture quality:
2.1
2.2
4.1
5.1
7.1
7.2
9.1
11.1
15.1
17.1
17.2
17.3
23.1
25.1
26.1
26.2
36.1
41.1
64.1
66.1
I have not been able to get FOX 29.1 or 29.2, or CITY 57.1

Most stations are rock solid when I aim the antenna carefully although I do get the occasional dropout from the weaker stations, usually weather related.

Of course I get a whole bagful of analog stations as well.

I also have an old Zenith in the basement hooked through a splitter to the same antenna and through an Apex DT502 converter box. The results are comparable with slightly less sensitivity, more dropouts than the Sony.

I did try a homemade 4 bay UHF (from uTube) indoors on my 2nd floor 13" Sharp analog set hooked up through the Apex and was able to get about 6 of the strongest digital stations.

I am now looking at building the GH10 to see what it will do.
