: Can a splitter block the transponders?

Hello,

I have a problem that is driving me nuts. Up until this week I only had a PVR. I have a dual LNB. When the expressvu guy installed it there are two cables coming out for Sat 82 and 91 into a splitter box and one cable coming out of that running directly into my PVR (roughly 30 ft). Everything works fine...yah!

Now the issue. So I got my 3100 in from Bell this week and went to install it. I bought a 6 ft. satellite coax cable and a Satellite splitter connector. I ran the single cable off the dish (roughly 6 ft) into the new splitter box and then connected my PVR to one of the outs and my 3100 to the other out. There is a 40 ft cable running to my 3100.

Now neither of the receivers are picking up the odd transponders. If I take the dual receiver splitter off it picks up all the transponders.

I am very confused on this one, if someone could help me out. The only thing I can tell you about the cable is they are 75 ohms 2300 mhrz. I noticed Bell's is 3000 mhrz. Will this make a difference? I went to home hardware and home depot and all their satellite cables are 2300 mhrz.

Thanks for the help

you don't use a splitter.
You need a switch, which is actually what your old splitter is.

The old piece is more acurately a 'combiner', an SW21, it conbines signals from 91 & 82 into 1 cable feeding the receiver.

The LNBF's each have 2 outputs, so I would say just connect the new line onto the 91 degree LNBF to get all the programming from that bird. If you want the same programming as the other receiver, get another SW21 and hook up exactly the same as the existing line.

Just so you know, Bell TV only charge $75 to do all that for you.....

Hello,

Thanks for all the help. I looked at the diagrams on the link below and I see exactly what I have other than, I only have 2 cables coming out of the LNBs. Do I need to disassemble them and run new cables out of it or are there outputs at the bottom of the "Satelllite pointing arm"?

As I said, each LNBF will most likely have 2 ouputs, you are only using 1 from each, so you have 2 spares, 1 on each LNBF.

Using a 'star' screwdriver, remove the screw underneath the 91 degree LNBF, ease the LNBF forward and you should see the spare port.

Thanks man. I'll pick up a switch tomorrow. I guess I'll need two 3 ft cables to run from the LNB out to the switch as well.

No, it is different.

An SW21 should not be more than about $10 I think.....

Do NOT be tempted into an SW21X, it is no good for you.

I've moved this thread to the install forum.

My question for you though is your PVR a 5x00 series (my assumption) or the 92xx series?

You may be over complicating your setup if you do not require programming from 82.

If people already pay for ANY programming from 82 degrees, they should have 82 reception on ALL receivers, in my opinion.

Nothing worse than watching a show and the following week, not being able to find it, just because you are on a different receiver that gets different channels.

It saves posts in this and other Forums, it saves frustration and it might even save a call or two to Bell.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't necessarily agree or disagree (I do have programming from both, but only feed both to select receivers - fortunately everyone can decide what they want to do to best suit themselves)....but in this case I'm not even sure if they have any requirement for 82 and if that is the case, removing it from the equation would simplify their install.

After some elbow greese and a $6 switch the problem has been resolved. Thanks everyone. All I need to do was run the new lines.
