Looks like there won't be any Senator games on PPV this season because of the demand for broadcast rights. Good stuff. Now it would be nice if all that demand translated in to an HD camera or two for the rink.

After two years of offering the packages, a broadcast source told Sun Media yesterday that the Senators are shelving the controversial offerings this year, but have not ruled out bringing them back at a future date.

Senators president Roy Mlakar said an announcement on the Senators' final broadcast plans for this season will be forthcoming soon.

Demand among the networks for Senators games has been high, said the broadcasting insider, leaving the Senators without many attractive games to put together for a pay-per-view package.

The CBC regional schedule has yet to confirmed, which could see some Saturday night games not already tabbed for national broadcast picked up (such as the Senators' home opener against the Red Wings Oct. 11).
I can't believe their home opener has not been scheduled for broadcast yet. I notice that CHRO is not currently listed as a broadcast partner. I believe that they were the last remaining OTA local broadcaster for a Canadian NHL team.

I read on another forum that the CBC regional broadcast for the Sens hasn't been released yet. The home opener may be there.

I bought 2 PPV's last year . Missed one entire period in one game before they switched to the American feed and lost sound more the entire 3rd period of another. I think the move was to save face(not their fault but the broadcasting co they used) as they didn't have a single game that didn't have issues.

Of those games not on TV right now 14 are on Saturday night, where CBC holds exclusive rights; 2 are on Wednesday night, where TSN holds exclusive rights; so that leaves only 4 that could be aired on PPV, which isn't enough to bother with.

PPV games don't count because the canucks have had lots of PPV games on those days. Same with the oilers & flames for Wednesday.

The Canucks only have one Wednesday PPV, and none on Saturday. The Oilers only have two on Wednesday, none on Saturday. The Flames only have one on a Saturday afternoon, none on Wednesday. None of these compete with a game on TSN or CBC.

I think as part of the new broadcast deals they can't air a game against TSN on Wednesday or CBC on Saturday. They can air one if it doesn't compete with TSN or CBC. As part of the old deal they could.

I read it in either a William Houston or Chris Zelkovich column. I can't remember when, it might have been a couple months ago, or it may have been over a year ago when CBC signed their new contract. I know that in previous years they were allowed do PPVs on Saturday and Wednesday, even if it was at the same time as a CBC or TSN broadcast. Obviously none of the three western teams are doing it this year.

I don't really feel like really feel like reading 100 articles trying to find it, if I do though I'll post.

Teams had to beg CBC to get permission to air games on PPV during the CBC window. Oilers have had ONE Saturday night ppv game since the lockout and a number of Saturday night games each not air on TV locally.

TSN was much more flexible with PPV and their Wednesday night window.
