: Bell Fibe TV Installation Discussion and Questions
Flummox 2009-08-12, 10:18 PM Question for anyone with iPTV in Toronto.
ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX - where is it broadcast from? Boston like their Sat. service or is it New York?
Thanks!
For Toronto the "big 4" (and PBS) US networks are sourced from Buffalo. Which is nice as it is a little more local than Boston.
brocksolid 2009-09-16, 09:45 AM Thanks.. I actually would prefer the source to come from Boston.. I already get Buffalo "big 4" from my antenna. I am a Patriots fan as well, so I really wish the source was from Boston. :(
can't have it all I guess.
I get Bell IPTV installed on Sept. 24th. I will provide an update.
Tridus 2009-09-21, 10:59 AM I called Bell to inquire about this service and it is currently limited to select neighbourhoods in Toronto but as Jagadis mentioned, their plan is to launch the service commercially (available to everyone) in the first quarter of 2009.
Also I noticed that the website has been updated and they have now added more package options. According to the tech I spoke with, the package price includes a reciever, high-speed internet access (you need around 24Mbps) and whatever channel options are included. Its a little pricey but looks like a good deal based on what you are getting.
I wonder how much of a threat this will be to Rogers as Bell will now be able to offer tons of channels with this IPTV service?!
I'd think they can offer a lot of channels, yeah. AFAIK channels on IPTV don't take up much or any wire space if nobody is watching them in an area (unlike satellite or analog cable, and I think digital cable too). So they shouldn't be constrainted by that to offer more channels.
Its likely just a popularity thing. Not a lot of people were on this service, so there wasn't a reason to offer a ton of channels. We saw the same thing out here in the Maritimes with Aliant TV, but the hope is that as they roll out FibreOP to more people they'll have the install base to make more channels profitable.
sprungy 2009-10-14, 01:27 PM hi guys,
I have an install of this service sheduled for Oct 23. Question, how well does Slingbox work with this setup? Are the IPTV boxes easily controlled/emulated by Slingbox? I'm in the MT/Pleasant & Davisville area of Toronto. Service will be installed by Bell.
thanks
wysiwyg 2009-10-15, 02:46 AM Wow, the service must be gettig close to me, good to know. I'm not sure if the system will work with the slingbox remote but would love to know once you get it. If someone can post the exact model number of the receiver, you could check the support page on slingmedia.com. For some reason, you get the supported receivers only when selecting certain models, so try first with a PRO-HD.
I think I will have to all them soon to see if it arrives in my area. (Yonge & Davisville).
p.s. Anyone notice that their site has changed? It doesn't give me the info anymore when I type my postal code.
betterthancable 2009-10-15, 10:24 PM The Slingbox works very well, especially with the great upstream speed >8Mb. Choose the AT&T Motorola boxes 1200 or 1216.
secotton 2009-10-27, 08:42 PM New to this forum, but I've been reading alot about this service for my new condo I'm moving into shortly and I do have a question:
I've read some people hint at only one HD stream will work at once, meaning you can record an HD stream and only then watch an SD stream. Is this true? That's a bit of a sticking point if it's accurate, but I would think I would have read more about this .
Still - considering what people have said that even the SD picture is much better than Rogers and even the regular BEV, then I might be able to overcome this.
I'll only have one STB, but want to record HD content while I watch other HD content on the same box.
Thanks in advance.
captn 2010-09-17, 11:31 AM Hi, would like to have some toughts from people that have had FibeTV installed, or that maybe know the answers to my questions.
I live in Anjou, FibeTV is available, went to a Bell Store to get quoted on hardware fees (4 receivers), and packages. Everything was going good until we discussed the installation fees. They said the Main PVR was 60$ and each extra receiver was 50$, for a total of 210$ plus taxes. I told them I have no problem paying the 60$, but all my rooms are wired with 2 cat6 cables and 2 rg6 cables, all terminating in a closet in the garage where the telephone line comes in the house, where my current modem and router is. I don't want to pay 150$ extra for a technician to simply plug in a total of 6 ethernet cables wich are already there, terminated, and tested to be functionnal. I told them I'll plug them in myself, but they insist I still have to pay the fees.
Anyone here had the same problem? Is there a way arround this? I was thinking, of buying the other receivers after the install, and plugging them in myself. I don't know if they will work outright, if I have to call Bell to activate them, and if Bell activates them, will they still charge me the 50$ each install fees.
Really want to switch to FibeTV (from Videotron), but the initial prices to switch are a bit to steep.
250.00$ main PVR
100.00$ extra receiver X 3
550.00$ minus promotion of 100.00$ = 450.00$
450.00$ plus the installation fees= 660.00$ before taxes !!!
If anyone as any ideas on getting a 4 TV setup for cheaper , let me know
Thank You
captn 2010-09-17, 11:47 AM And another question. This is my Bell Canada demarcation box on the side of my house, it's pretty old, never asked them to change it since we only ever had a telephone line with them and it always worked prefectly.

Will they change this during the installation of FIbeTV and Internet?
Is this changed at my cost or Bell's?
Have you called Bell directly? Just tell them what you want and that you are unwilling to pay $210 for installation. Perhaps they will give you programming credits to offset some of the installation charges.
sillywalk 2010-09-17, 01:59 PM Basic installation includes installation of PVR and up to 2 additional HD receivers.
mtlscream 2010-09-17, 02:31 PM Just ordered Fibe Tv + Fibe 7 this week.... Installation will be tuesday...
Installation fees will be 259$ but will have a 200$ credit on my first bill. So i will pay 59$.
Also, there's a promo now about the PVR HD free for 1, 2 or 3 yrs... depend on how many service you have / or take with Bell.
joepro 2010-09-17, 03:43 PM Mine was just as old as yours and they replaced it and installed a POTS splitter as well. This was included in the 59$ installation fee (259$-200$).
captn 2010-09-17, 11:04 PM Thanks for you replies,
When you gus say your installation fees are 259$-200$= 59$
For how many receivers is this?
And also are you guys buying or renting the receivers?
I was offered :
-Main PVR plus 1 extra receiver rental for free + extra receivers at full price if purchased
-All the receivers at half price if purchased
You guys think I would be able to get a better deal ?
joepro 2010-09-18, 10:19 AM In my case, it was for 1 receiver. I wanted to purchase the PVR because of the 249$ promotion, but the CSR told me I could rent it for free for 3 years. She did say I would have to keep renting after 3 years, but that didn't make any sense to me... I'll just tell 'em I'm switching back to videotron and see what they say.
Dr.Dave 2010-09-18, 11:59 AM According to the Bell site:
Basic installation includes installation of PVR and up to 2 additional HD receivers.

captn 2010-09-18, 02:37 PM Thanks again for your inputs guys,
I guess I will be going with FibeTV, my contract with videotron ends October 11th, so I will schedule an install date with Bell this week for arround that day. I'll get back to this thread to let you guys know all the details of the offer I got, maybe I't can help someone else who will be switching to FibeTV.
If someone as questions they would like me to ask the installers when they come, let me know.
I wanted to know if it's possible to buy used At&T Uverse receivers (Motorola VIP 1200) instead of buying or renting Bell's. Theyre the same equipement as Bell, and my guess is with the serial numbers and mac adresses , they should be able to add them to your account. I'll ask them, and if its possible to move the receivers once installed, cause I will be getting a new Tv in the basement wich will be wall mounted, but the wiring is already in place, so i assume its only unplug the old one from the gateway and plug the new one in .
sillywalk 2010-09-19, 11:09 AM According to the Bell site:

Yes, I had included all of that data, with links and everything, but someone felt the need to edit my comment to what you see now.

do they run the fibre optic cable to the same place as your copper demark?
mtlscream 2010-09-20, 11:59 AM I'll get my Fibe TV + Fibe 7 installed tomorrow... and i was wondering:
How did your instalation go ? How long did it take ? what did the tech do during the installation? I know my phone jack are sorta old... we will see i guess :)
For my tv, i'll use HDMI but are they included with the PVR HD ? or only components ?
Thanks for sharing eperience during your installation.
