Just got an iPhone last week, and would like to get some 3rd party apps, other than those in the Apple store. Do I need to "Jailbreak" the phone to do this? Does anyone have any experience doing so, and should I be concerned about Rogers/Apple warranty, etc? Is there another thread I should be looking at or posting to? I did see one in a different category that was maybe more applicable to the iTouch.
Thx, ..Roger
Yes, you'll need to jailbreak it and yes you'll invalidate your warrantee. Lots of people do it and there is lots of how to information online, but I would recommend that you only do it if you're fairly technologically literate so that you don't accidentally "brick" your phone. I have friends who have jailbroken phones and never had a problem . Since I depend on my phone, I wouldn't do it, just because I want quick access to support if there's a problem.

Nothing to fear from trying, since you can always completely, totally and without a trace revert back to official apple firmware.
Google winpwn, or head to winpwn dot com and you'll find the correct info.
Have fun! :)

Hell do it, tho you may want now to wait until 2.03 or 2.1 comes out given this "privacy issue" announced today. QuickPwn made this nearly painless and from what I can see understand of the process and the firmware you really cannot go wrong with it, like aoshi said, worst case you put back to factory and start over. I did mine and everything already on the phone contacts etc etc was maintained. Remember you only want to Jailbreak not unlock the phone (assuming your a legit 3g customer ;-) )
