Just bought the new HTC Touch Diamond. This phone is awesome. Web surfing is just as good as the iphones and has built in wifi.

I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a good iphone alternative.

I picked up mine this morning. Just one of those gotta have things. I had a Moto Q prior and used to push my email to it using desktop redirector. Now that I'm on Vista that didn't work any more, and as far as i knew Shaw didn't have external access to email. I really wanted to use email again just didn't want to have to setup a telusmobility email account...

Then I just found out that sometime not too long ago shaw decided to open up their pop server external to their network and now I'm a happy camper. I get my email from my Shaw account and use Telus's servers to send. Sweet!!!

How do you like it so far? I am loving it.

Just one issue I have......maybe you know a solution.

I live near the US boarder and frequently pick up the US tours when I am in Canada. I always turn roaming off on my phones. I think I figured out how to shut it off via phone in the settings menu and turn the network service to home only. The only issue is that is resets itself to scan everytime I turn the phone off. For some reason, the change never sticks.

Any idea's? I have never used a windows mobile phone before

Sorry can't help you, I've never turn roam off. You could try one of the htc touch diamond forums that are out there. Google them you'll find them.

Try PIE if it's installed on your phone or get the CAB from your PC and then transfer it across:

QuickGPS was said to be included on some message boards... but its not. I really liked Telus Navigator but im not into 10$ a month for it :(

I had the same problem with Opera. For installing cabs you have to use internet explorer.

Hey do any of you know when the Diamond will be available from Bell? I saw another thread that said August, but I haven't saw it in store yet.

Update. I could not get GPS working. Called telus... LOL and well he did not do anything but just calling them made the diamond kick into gear!

I got both google and LIVE SEARCH working at the same time no less. Go figure.. Anyway just a quick comment about live search. It uses voise commands to find where u what to go. Under location u select GPS location then hit search and speak where u want to go. I tried Mc donalds and sure enough it popped up. Route the trip and away u go. Im not in the car yet so i have not tried it out to see if it will keep me on route. But as a freebie so far im impressed.

Issues so are:
Album art. I use WM11. Rip my tunes to mp3 format. When u drag and drop to synce the album art does not seemed to want to show up on the phone. My fix was to go to my music folders and drag and drop them into the phones music folders. From vista u can see the artist album art on each folder. So for metallica i could see 3 album covers on the metallica folder and they showed up on the phone. Still learning how to manipulate playlists and such(i was never one to use mp3 players or pc music playing so im pretty green at this)

-Youtube has some sort of glitch with the music player. If youtube is on in the back ground and you try to play music i get the following error: "For the yourtube to perform optimally, music will be ended." Well the fix is turn off youtube to play music. Perhaps not a glitch but a weird compatibility issue

KOOL STUFF:
-Game teeter. Simple ball game that puts the vibration function to use in the game and shows off the phone internal gyro thingy.. A ball rolls around and you gently rock the phone up,down, left and right... Cute novilty game

-Weather... I checked the weather alot on the old touch... Now i look forward to all this ottawa rain just to see the animation of the rain and wipers! LOL

-Camera: way better then the old one... but its still a phone camera.. auto focus is nice

-OPERA: Licened full version of opera is so sweet. 2 small issues: Cannot download files from the browser still have to use IE. Also on the beta version i could open and close tabs... for some reason i can only open new tabs but not close any. So once u got 3 open you cant close any... ill dig deeper to see if i missed a setting.

Anyway ill keep playing. :)

Hey North Of Calgary... I was fascinated by your post. Mostly because I didn't have the foggiest notion of what you were trying to convey. Please elaborate. What is PIE or CAB? I would like to use Google Maps too. I have read that IE allows more capable downloads than Opera in some instances. How do I load IE onto my Diamond?
I am mightily impresed by this little gadget... more and more as I learn how to use it.

Album art in touchflo flip screen only seems to work with embedded album art. Even the it's a little finicky. I think they have some bugs to work out.

P.I.E as you've worked out from other posts is Pocket Internet Explorer. A .CAB file is a way of packaging files into a single file - similar to .ZIP. Windows (desktop) uses a lot of .CAB files for installation. On Windows Mobile it means that you can just save the .CAB file to your phone and install from there - no need to use a .EXE on your desktop and Active Sync.

My other post (which I linked) to was because I had the same issue with Google Maps and an original touch. Google is pretty smart and dynamically gives you options depending on your browser/OS. But I found that it doesn't detect Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta properly yet. Hence it thinks that you have a smart phone and wants you to install the Java version of google maps. However, you should actually be using the full Windows version, not the Java version. By going to mobile.google.com using pocket internet explorer, the google site detects that you're actually using Windows mobile and hence gives you the option of downloading the proper version via CAB file.

Thanks very much to both of you for the elaboration. I have gotten GoogleMaps running. Used it this morning after taking a wrong turn and it worked flawlessly.

Don't you just love this stuff?
