Has anyone managed to get Shaw email up and running on the iphone? I keep getting various error messages and haven't been able to get it working.

I know that the difference between Shaw and Telus is, is that Shaw is a closed Email system. With Telus, I can retrieve emails as long as I have internet access. With Shaw, you have to be connected to a Shaw specific internet connection (WiFi or Ethernet). Check this out -

This might help for Shaw users:
Remote POP Access — Beta Trial (http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCare/InternetSupport/Residential/Email/RemotePOPAccess.htm)

Yes, thanks Technut. I have been forwarding all my Shaw mail to my gmail account as it is POP and pushes quite nicely to my iTouch. I'll give this a try.

Yes, you have to either pay $20 a year of use a work around such as
http://email.about.com/od/iphonemail/qt/et_get_hotmail.htm

Google for more info. Gmail is easy to setup if you are able to change without much hassle.

I just tried pop.shaw.ca on my new iPhone :D but the address doesn't seem to resolve -- I can't ping it from a command prompt on my PC for example.

Needless to say it doesn't work from the iPhone either (on local Wi-Fi nor HSPA).

I also tried using this on my iPod Touch, but I can't get it to work either.

My most up-to-date contact information are with my Gmail account. Does anybody know how to get that into an iphone?

Alternatively, can I copy the contact from my old phone to the new iphone through SIM card swapping?

Thanks.

SIM import is in the settings som where. Google the other issue perhaps...might have to transfer to Outlook first.

Gmail contact sync is built into iTunes. Just click the checkbox and enter your Gmail account info.

Change your pop3 settings to pop.shaw.ca
Change your SMTP to smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com

worked for me, i have it fetch every 15 minutes

Thanks, it's working for me now. Not sure what was wrong. I deleted the account and added it again. Twice. Then it started working.

I don't think we can send to smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com from within the Shaw network, right? Shaw blocks port 25 on non-Shaw servers. I can send if I switch to 3G. Oh well, I'll mostly be sending from my iPhone when not at home anyway.

I guess life will be good when Shaw gets their own GSM network! ;)

Too bad I've sold my soul to Rogers for the next 3 years.
