: Flashpoint on CTV/CBS
2010-06-04, 12:08 PM
The definition is that it is "new" to the United States, first time it has aired on CBS. Yes all of these episodes have already aired on CTV and you and I (and many other Canadians) have probably already watched all of them.
Also I can confirm the Zap2it description for episode S3-1 "One Wrong Move" that will air on CBS tonight (and again on CTV) is the same as the one I captured back in the Fall of 2009 when it aired on CTV.

When I look at JAM TV online, I look at Rogers cable in the Brampton area.
No way the definition above should be allowed. The show was broadcast in this area once before, therefore it is not a new show.
Are they still aiming for Fall 2010 for the new season?
2010-06-07, 11:00 AM
No Flashpoint is not on CTV's fall schedule, I think the new season will probably start in the winter or spring.
2010-06-07, 11:05 AM
rfielder, JAM TV doesn't have any TV listings. All it does is provide a link to ZAP2it.com which is a division of Tribune Media Services in Chicago. In situations where the Canadian "Original Air Date" is different from the U.S., the U.S. date and "NEW" status takes priority.
2010-06-07, 04:27 PM
Yep, even Doctor Who episodes are listed as "new", even if they have already aired in the U.K. To Zap2It, "new" means new to the United States.
2010-06-08, 10:31 AM
My definition of "new" is when a show has aired in my area. If a show has aired in the UK, it would still be new to Ontario the first time it airs in Ontario.
Perhaps Zap2It considers "new" only in the USA context, but that is incorrect. Since they present the listings are regional, they need to present the "new" flag with the same regional focus.
Which is way off topic. If we wish to discuss this further, it should be moved to a seperate discussion. I am just annoyed that they listed the Flashpoint episodes as "new" when they had already been broadcast in the Toronto area.

Usually Zap2it adds the new flag when it is new to the channel. Eg shows which air on Discovery Channel are listed as new when they air a few months later on Discovery HD. So it should be listing the CBS airing as new, but not the CTV airing.

It's fixed this week on zap2it - CBS is "new", CTV is not.

Following its television broadcast, the Season 3 sneak peek will be available on demand on the CTV Video Player at CTV.ca. (http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/June2010/30/c9547.html)
Earlier this month CTV announced the pick-up of a fourth season which will begin production in Toronto for the 2010/2011 season.
It looks like CTV is calling the season that finished broadcasting on CTV "Season 2". So season 3 is coming up and season 4 is scheduled to start shooting.

Canada's most-watched original drama series is back with a bang this summer with the highly anticipated third season of FLASHPOINT, Fridays at 10 p.m. ET beginning August 6 on CTV (http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/July2010/20/c5418.html)

Wow - no discussion about this show since July 20!
We have really been enjoying the current "season". It is dynamic, great stories, great writing, overall very interesting.
However, I think somebody at CTV must be fighting to kill this series! They are taking a prime time action drama and using it as a summer filler? And they are taking shows that were filmed during the winter and spring and showing them during the summer months? That is what you do with reruns, not one of your station's premium shows!!!!!
Plus, it looks like the current "season" is really the rest of the last season, they just didn't bother broadcasting it. Maybe that is why the seasons are out of sync, and the stories and character development are a continuation of the previous season.
I would really like to see this series get the attention it deserves, but CTV seems to be doing their best to screw it around.
According to both the CTV Flashpoint pages and Wikipedia, this "season" has one more episode, "Collateral Damage", but there are no further listings for episodes to be broadcast as far as I can see.
Another issue for me is that the CTV Flashpoint pages list five episodes for season 3. The first and last episodes match what we have seen, and what is listed on Wikipedia. There are to be eight episodes, not five! We have seen seven of the eight so far.
Anyone know what is going on with this series - last show broadcast date, future, etc? IMHO, this series shows just how good Canadian TV can be, so it would be a shame if CTV does not make it work.

The biggest reason why CTV is airing it in the summer is because they are letting CBS air the episodes whenever they want to. Last year CTV was able to get ahead of CBS by airing the episodes that CBS aired from May-August 2010 from January-April. However, CBS decided to keep airing episodes (ones that CTV was probably saving for winter) throughout August and early September. CTV didn't want CBS to have the premiere because they knew nobody would watch them on CTV the second time around.

I don't think it's a question of not watching them on CTV the second time around, because Flashpoint has been getting great repeat ratings.
More likely, there was no point in holding off since there was nothing else to air in that time period anyway.
I don't think CTV is trying to kill off the series at all - it has been getting fantastic ratings on Friday nights!

I was close to dropping this show in the spring, but the quality of the shows over the summers has really improved. But I agree that somebody has been trying their best to kill it as there was a real screw-up when whatever season started in early summer. Was it new shows or was it reruns? I almost skipped it thinking it must have been reruns and I would not be surprised if I missed one or two shows.
It woud be nice if this was scheduled as a summer show as the winter schedule or shows is really busy.

I just got into this series back in July and overall I am enjoying it quite a bit. I haven't gone back to watch the previous episodes, but I probably will do that once I get some time from the new shows starting up. Definitely one of the better cop dramas I've seen in quite some time.
2010-09-21, 06:08 PM
If anyone is trying to kill it off it is CBS, although they even see it as a good ratings producer that is cheap because it is a co-production with CTV.

FLASHPOINT Midseason Finale Wraps Up with Season High 1.8 Million Viewers on CTV (http://newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/September2010/20/c3508.html)
So Flashpoint is done for a while. According to previous press releases that I posted CTV has already renewed season 4 and is probably filming now.
BTW CTV's Flashpoint page looks sadly neglected, so you can't go by that.

That is strange - both Wikipedia and the CTV website list one more episode for the current season.
Did they let it run too long, and are going to hide the last episode so they can start their new season? Seems to be the new season is starting early this year - I think I remember complaining last year about new shows starting at the end of Sep or into Oct, thus shortening their seasons even further.
I remember Lauren Holly-Greco as the Director on NCIS. She was good in the role, better than the guy they have now IMHO. Good to see Flashpoint attracting some Hollywood talent.
