This may still be true but I believe that with Shaw, you cannot receive collect calls, and you cannot call 1-900 numbers. These are the only two limitations with Shaw, but that was back in 2006 when I signed up....so call 611 from your Shaw phone and ask a rep as this may have changed and maybe you just need to enable something on your account.

3. Can I accept collect calls?

Collect calls are one of the most expensive forms of long-distance calling today. Because of this, many telephone service providers are offering customers other options. Shaw has chosen to provide our Prepaid Calling Plan as our alternative to traditional collect-call services.

* With our prepaid plan, collect callers can talk longer for less. The only difference is that callers will dial a local access number, rather than place the call through an operator. You can set up one or more users on your plan and you can monitor usage online.

I guess not, but with the other company, like Sasktel, you can.

Pretty sure you are a no go for dialing 1-900 numbers.

I got home from work today and found no dial tone with my shaw digital phone. Anyone else in the Edmonton area experiencing this?

You might have a hardware failure. I had a Motorola cable modem failure with my Shaw phone last month. Shaw had a tech out the next day to replace it with an Arris modem. The tech mentioned that they have had some (not a huge number but some) Motorola failures and none yet with the Arris modems.

Report your issue to Shaw (either call from your cell or use web support).

Interesting, I didn't even consider that. I have an Arris modem now and all the lights are still on but the line 1 and line 2 lights are flashing. When a buddy called me he got a "call can't be completed due to a network failure" message or something like that. I plan on contacting Shaw if it's not fixed by morning.

It's all good now. I phoned Shaw from another phone and they reset my modem. I guess this must be a common occurance for people?
