Hello :) I've tried looking for answers in this forum before posting but sadly found nothing. I am unsure if I can ask for help here, if not please feel free to delete and accept my apologies !

I recently bought a Samsung 40" LCD TV (Model LN40A450) and my screen turns black for 1 or 2 seconds when the TV displays white images in HD or fullscreen resolution.

For example, I was watching CSI the other day, and the screen would go black whenever Grissom took pictures (which he did a lot). Also, while playing some games on PS3, the screen will go black for a second when the screen is whiteish (Konami logo screen or watching the sun in MGS4)

I've called Samsung, and they didnt seem to know the issue... they told me to call the retailer, which I did. But just to make sure I'm not gonna get fooled around, I could use some advice. Is it a backlight issue? A power issue?

I dont know a lot about LCD TVs, so any tip will be appreciated :)

Thanks a lot, and sorry if this post doesnt belong here.

Many of the power supplies in todays TVs are right at the limit when the TV is maxed out for its default (vivid/dynamic) mode. I suggest a proper calibration of the TV and this issue may go away since the power supply will no longer be "maxed out". Perhaps reduce the backlight setting from 10 to 8 if that's the scale...in addition to the other settings discussed below:

Thanks a lot for the tips sir! I'll try it tonight for sure.
I turned a few options off since then, but nothing seemed to work. I guess I'll kill them all  and try to find one of those calibraiton dvds.

Take it back and get it replaced quick. Before the exchange runs out.

A new TV should not lose the pic no matter how bright you set it.

I finally found what was going on.

I was using an A/V selector with my old TV (I had too many game consoles) and for some reason I kind of used it with my new TV... It was unnecessary to say the least.

That being said, it looks like even if the box is supposed to be HD compatible, it doesnt like full screen white pictures :) I plugged my cable decoder and my ps3 directly into the TV instead, and I am happy to say that I watched CSI without any blackouts on photo flashes and played my games perfectly, at max resolution and max backlight strenght (just to see :P it's back to 5 now)

Thanks for your help though!
I'm not embarassed to call myself a noob on this one !
I'll keep an eye on this forum. Mucho mucho useful.
