After viewing Marks post I was in the process of ordering a VGA to Component Transcoder until I saw the warnings for that setup. My question is will my Dell Dim XPS 3.0 GHz with a 128MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics card support the necessary 480i, 480p,540p and1080i at 60Hz formats so as not to damage my HDTV. If not what else would I need to do.

Most people agree that the ATI cards do a better with HDTV's because of their ability to handle different frequencies and refresh rates. I would suggest a 9000 or better.

This is not techincally true. Not all resolutions run at 60Hz. Refer to this guide (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=206854l) over at AVS Forums. It was quite helpful in helping me set up my HTPC.
Thanks for the link and info. Guess I have to do some more research before I puchase anything.
