Cable box will not output HD unless it is to an HDCP compliant device. Does that describe the Hauppauge card?

Cable box will not output HD unless it is to an HDCP compliant device. Not true at all for component video. The Hauppauge uses component video. See the following thread, easily found by searching for Hauppauge.

Could we please stick to the topic of this thread which is the Rogers UI? Thanks.

This happens once in a while. A cold reboot (unplug wait 10 seconds/replug, wait for the time to display) solves the issue, but the guide won't update fully until midnight, so everything should be fine the next day after the reboot:

See: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17719 SA Tips.

If it happens repeatedly, there may be something in his home like a poor splitter, bad cabling, etc. blocking the return signal to the head end.

I have this problem today.. weird though is that i have 4 days available to see.. then I can't see anything on Friday September 11th (says NO INFO AVAILABLE).. but i can skip Friday and see Saturday and Sunday..

I power cycled now, so hopefully it will resolve itself tonight after midnight.

I had the exact same problem. My guide ended last Wednesday. As suggested, the cold boot fixed the problem. However, it resurfaced yesterday -- the guide that had previously loaded after cold booting disappeared again. Cold booting again fixed the problem, but it screwed up my scheduled recordings for the day (luckily I caught it in time). This may be the cause for the missed recordings that some people have experienced in this thread:

Is your Interactive Program Guide (IPG) showing in 16:9 or 4:3 ?

I have setup my new 8300HD PVR to be 16:9, and I can zoom 4:3 programs, but not the IPG; it just displays black bars on either side.

Is this normal ?

Opening old wounds huh? The IPG is 4:3.

The dreaded tan guide has been changed for at least six months. It was horrible and the new guide with the small picture and blue color is much better. The only problem I have is that I want to be able to see only the channels I have with VIP and get rid of the rest in the guide. Also the repeating channels throughout the guide are very annoying and you cant erase one without getting rid of the other through skipping.

I'm getting this problem all the time now, I can never see past Mon which makes it very annoying when you want something to record at midnight Tues. I've rebooted the system but the problem always comes back every week. I never had this problem for over 1 year but it started happening about 2 months ago

Becks,

Is your box always left on? more data loads if the box gets turned off for a few hours each day.

Yep, all the boxes stay on. I know my boxes use to go into hibernation mode some time during the night but they don't seem to do that anymore. I guess I'll put in a sleep and wakeup timer

I've noticed some shows (such as this week's "V") run past the hour by a minute or two. The web guides, such as Zap2It seem to be able to notice that difference, but the Rogers IPG doesn't. This means some shows are cut short on my PVR. Is there any way around this, beyond manually extending the record times?

If the programme is only on once a week, then the manual extension is the only way - or set the PVR to record the next programme always...

If the programme is on more than once a week (like daily) then the time can be extended and "holds". This is a known bug which many of us wish could be fixed either with firmware or a proper IPG with the correct times instead of approximations in 5 minute increments.

I have tried recording the following show, but in addition to the irritation of starting the next show, it appears a few seconds are lost in the process. Are the 8300 PVRs only capable of 5 minute increments? I wouldn't have a problem with that 5 minutes, if only they didn't miss that one or two minutes.

It's not the PVRs, it's the lousy IPG info that Rogers gets from TV Guide Canada, and of course some blame should be placed on the networks for the non-standard start-stop times.

Here's the original thread on the topic:

It's only been 5 years...

I have few isues, guide is one of them.
1 tv/ 720p with HD box, 2 projector/ 1080p (on both of them when I click quide picture shrinks (black bars on left/ right side). I can zoom to fill the screen but it still cut off.
2nd isue: I get too many formats from all the Chanels, speed HD (looks amazing in HD), than jump to 49 reg. (black bars to and bottom), discovery reg. (I get black bars top and bottom, like smaller 16x9).
the Rogers tech told me this is how it is, we send you the signal how it is, up to you too zoom/ streach.
Is he right?, what are my option?, I'm really thinking of going to bell.

yourtoys7, as noted many times, the IPG is 4:3.
