I seem to recall that the DVE/AVIA disks are often not stored where you'd expect them. I can't remember where they were, but perhaps "self help"?

I saw both some months ago at the big HMV on Yonge near Dundas. The DVE was $40 and the Avia as $80. Personally, I found my DVE on Craig's List for $30 :) , but it was sans filters :( . (Buyer beware!)

cheers,

I quite often see DVE in the "Specialty" DVD section at both Future Shop and Best Buy.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys...I'll probably try the HMV today and perhaps call another Future Shop and/or Best Buy to see if I come across anyone there with a little more knowledge of this product.

I'll let you know where I find it...

I figured that I would bump this Avia help thread rather than make a new one.

I have a couple questions regarding the Avia Home Theatre Setup Guide.

1) Is the 1999 version the newest edition?

2) When running through the Basic Video Setup I hit a brick wall when it comes to tweaking the colour and tint settings as I do not have access to the tint controls in the Component Video inputs. How should I go about tweaking my colours? Sorry if this seems like an entry level question but this is my first home theatre (seriously).

For reference, I have a Samsung SP R4212 EDTV and I am running all video sources through a Yamaha HTR 5850 as it upconverts to Component Video for all input sources. All audio is run exclusively through the receiver as well.

Reaper:

1) As far as I know the 1999 version is the latest.
2) If tint is disabled (which is normal for various inputs) then you just use the available color control instead.

So, the colour setting (in the main menu) would just be for saturation then, eh?

do both Avia and DVE have color strips in their retail boxes?

I had checkout one out from local library. Did most basic calibration, but I believe I will need the color strips.... (the library copy is just the DVD)

AVIA has three colour strips. Can't recall if DVE has three or one. I believe the S&V version only had a blue strip...

Picked up a copy of Avia from Starstruck in Square One.

Not sure if they had DVE, but I would assume so. Paid about $77 which is a little more than getting it online, but being impatient, I spent the extra cash.

Yes that is correct. Your tint is set automatically and should be correct. In any case you cannot adjust it.

Hi Everyone.

I'm still very green when it comes to HDTV. I recently purchased an RPLCD and will be taking it out of the box for the first time in a couple of weeks.

I've noticed some of you have talked about calibration DVD's that walk you throught the process of tweaking and adjusting the picture quality on the TV.

I have a couple of questions; is this something that someone who has no real experience with a TV larger than a 27" CRT should even contemplate? I have a Hitachi 50V525, Rogers is coming to hook up my new 8300HD PVR (Man am I excited) and I want to get the most out of my HD experience.

My second question is (if your answer to question 1 is that its not very difficult), where can I purchase this DVD and what is it called?

Thanks in advance for your help.
