I'd like to sign up with XM through a U.S. mailing address. Does anyone know how much of B.C. (and rest of canada) is covered?

You might want to consider Sirius. Due to the satellite orbit, it has better Canadian coverage.

Works just fine in BC but drops out abit more than Sirius in cities.
