All calling features with the CIA service are now free.

Previously only Call Display was included and each additional feature at $2.95 a piece. Now all features are included free.

"Saving another $6/month now.. I'm happy"

only if the calling feature works. in my case, the call display never displays the caller name and time the call received. I've complained this the cia for more than 6 months; sadly no one at cia admits this :( not to mention if they are fixing it.

I have been on CIA here in Edmonton for several months. 2 months ago I ordered my phone number ported over from Telus. Last week, Telus released my number, but my number is still "not in service". I have tried several times to get through to them the past number of days, but both the CIA and 3WEB phone numbers tell me "please try again later."

They told me a few weeks ago that my number had been pulled from the pool of phone numbers. But my phone number is still not working. I am more worried that my phone number is lost for good (I've had it for 7 years).

Anybody have any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Strong, did you get the call datetime stamp displayed on the phone ? It never worked for me from day one the service is available to me. I've been calling cia for 6 months and still no one admits this problem. Lately the cia help line 1-877-743-8242 does not take any calls ...

The datetime stamp works for me but not correct. It always be two hour early then the real time in toronto. For example I got the call on 7:00pm my phone will display it as 5:00pm. I think this is CIA VoIP server's problem.
Can you login your ATA's administrator web page? Is there timestamp displayed there? I think it is provisioned by CIA and user can not change it.

Did CIA send an email notify you that the transfer done? If not do not worry. Most of us know efficiency of CIA.

Mine was doing that as well I logged a service call with them a few weeks ago and it has now started working again.

Caller id doesnt work properly for me either. It just shows name/number, no date or time as well.

Has anyone called cia customer service recently? It seems the line is not available. I have emailed them, no any response. I am afraid that the cybersurf is closed.

i finally got thru on the "investor relations" line. I very nice person helped me. She got help desk to phone me back. She informed me that they have been trying to implement a new phone system for the past 5 days and it is not working very well. She mentioned she has received many calls from angry clients.

The help desk person told me the number was ported and to reset (power cycle) my VOIP adapter and re-register my MAC address. I reset my VOIP adapter, as well as my modem. No good. When I log into the web admin for the VOIP adapter, it still has my temp number programmed in. And I can't re-register my MAC address on the 'my account' website. It just gives me an error.

So the people at CIA/3Web are still there, it's just nobody can get through to them. And even after tech support called me back, it still doesn't work.

The tech support person mentioned investor relations had been getting in trouble for taking all these calls. They are supposed to just refer them to the CIA/3WEB phone numbers (which don't work and which is why people are phoning the investor relations number in the first place).

These people seem to have no clue what they are doing.

Anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I posted a thread with the shipping address info on Bank St, Ottawa, and have since decided to cancel the entire thing: since two months we've been without phone service at our new house, and now the Internet was downgraded to 65kbps (more or less)... They no longer answer their phones, any selection if one gets through is busy. I have never wasted as much time with a company, only myself to blame: $39.95 deal was not a deal in my case. Sorry to say as their tech support (two weeks ago they still answered) was great, as well as the email support.
My modem was missassigning IPs so the VoIP didnt work - could not get a replacement!

My recommendation: not worth the effort, (if only they were less busy as the offer is really amazing)!

I'm paying more than double for proper high speed internet and VoIP lines, yet get immediate help if required and the equipment worked first off.
Great idea, poor implementation. Like when city fido came out, their network could not handle the traffic.

cheers,
Greeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaattttt.

I haven't figured out the admin page but you can access the user account with username: user password: user

Well i have read 212 post on all 15 pages of this thread and from what i've seen i'm gonna stick with my $2.95/month unlimited dial up access from 295.ca......At least its dependable & stable (so what if I cant use the phone,or cant get no collection agencies calling me while online...LOL )

as for 3web, my lil bro was with them for over a year & when ever they having a problem with the server the tech support WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONES ...almost positive it works same way at cia/cybersurf

For me this seems to be to much of a pain in the ass just to save a couple of $$ on high speed internet & a few extra option on my phone

Thank you to all that took time to post there up & down about CIA

Mike

connivance:

Thanks for posting the login info...I was trying to brute the admin password with Brutus, but that'd just take way too long.

At least now we have access to the user admin page.

After playing with the user admin page, I found the following:

1. You cannot change the user password. It SEEMS like you can change it, but if you reboot the device, it again only accepts user/user.

2. You are able to enable DMZ and admin page on the WAN port. You can also set the ATA's LAN port to bridge mode instead of NAT (use this option if you want to run the device behind a router). I would enable the admin page to be accessible from both the LAN/WAN ports while testing.

Problems:
I cannot get this device to work behind a router. I am using a Linksys WRT54G (Thibor 15c firmware).

I have cloned the ATA's MAC to the Linksys router and forwarded the necessary ports (see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/558410.html).
I even tried to DMZ all ports to the ATA, so I'm guessing that maybe it uses IP protocol information that isn't in TCP or UDP. Or perhaps I'm missing something.

Hmm,

I've been trying to get ahold of someone there all week regarding the busted caller id, each time i'm on hold for about 40 min and eventually just get disconnected.

It's 2:40pm PST, http://www.cia.com/ isn't working. No one answering phone, no more website, is this the end?

Yes I've noticed that cia.com isn't working either. Sometimes their toll free # isn't working either. Anytime anyone asks me about this service, I keep saying that it's pretty difficult to get ahold of their customer service, so you basically run your own tech support.

On the bright side...

I've finally gotten the Linksys/Cisco/Sipura SPA2100 working behind my router (WRT54G v3.0)!

The reason why it wasn't working before even after forwarding the necessary ports (http://www.sipura.com/Documents/faq/Section_1.html#5) and disabling the SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall, was due to SIP registration problems. The above sipura page provided a hint that was the case.

To get around SIP registration issues, I installed an alternative firmware (DD-WRT v23 SP1 Final voip) on my router which includes SIPatH. This allows the router to act as a SIP proxy, so that your ATA device will register properly to the SIP server. This proxy will forward registration requests from the ATA device to CIA's SIP server.

I'm afraid that with the default WRT54G firmware and the Thibor 15c firmware, you will still run into problems due to SIP registration issues. I don't know if other routers work out of the box in this type of configuration.

This is a fairly step by step guide for the brave...I think you can lock yourself out of the ATA if some items are not configured correctly

1. You receive your ATA device (SPA2100) ;)
2. Login to the device (http://192.168.0.1) via the web control panel. It only supports the 192.168.0.X subnet, so you may have to play around with your network/router settings! The login info to get in as mentioned before is (user/user).
3. Enable the advanced setup options by clicking on Advanced. You need to enable Javascript in your web browser for this configuration page to work in case you block javascript.
4. To ensure you have access to the web control panel, enable the "Enable WAN Web Server" on the WAN setup page. This then enables the web control panel on both the WAN and LAN ports. If you lock yourself out, you just hook up to the "Internet" port to access the web control panel. Also since you are running the ATA behind the router, you only have it plugged into the WAN port anyways, so you should enable it for access to configure the ATA.

You can also activate this option via the IVR (Interactive Voice Response).

a. Hook up a phone to to the ATA and dial "****"
b. You should now hear “Sipura configuration menu. Please enter option followed by the pound key or hang-up to exit.”
c. Dial "7932" and then "1" to enable the WAN port web server.

Additional IVR config options can be found here:
http://www.sipura.com/Documents/SPA2100-Administrative_Supplement1.1.pdf

5. On the LAN setup page, change the networking service to bridge mode. This allows the ATA to act as a standard DHCP client so that it will accept an IP from your router. Also disable the DHCP server on the LAN side.

Once you save you changes, remember the DHCP is not active! Think about the connectivity issues! You can lock yourself out!

Lots of VOIP stuff for me to learn...

Ciao for now.

There is some sort of timestamp in the ATA's admin web page; however it seems to be a few hours behind the EST :( I've been trying their help desk number for weeks; always got "busy" voice prompt.

Does anyone know how to set up CIA's VT1005S ATA behind a WRT54GL??
I'm getting frequent drop outs when I'm using BitTorrent clients, so I was hoping that I can use the QoS of the WRT54GL to prioritize the voip packets over the P2P packets. Thanks

Got this off a press release site he is the CEO. I've tried calling with no luck yet but figured if we all bombard him they will have to address the complaints.

CIA is upgrading the phone systems, but right now they're testing the maximum amount of people the system can handle before it crashes. And no, the "investor relations" number is NOT meant for regular customers, only investors. Keep trying the 1-800 numbers and you will get through eventually.
Also, try help.cia.com to try and get it working in the meantime
