But they have used it to play things other than hockey or golf. A few weeks ago they ran the Champ Car Long Beach grand prix live and uncut. It was run later on the regular channel (late Sunday night/Monday morning) and was completely butchered. I was hoping that they would have run the bump day qualifying from Indy this past Sunday, but of course the channel no longer exists (for us on Shaw anyway).

Sounds like Shaw, or the person responding at least, has no concept of what TSN-Alt is all about. From TSN's website: (http://www.tsn.ca/feature/?fid=11103)
In order to provide more sports coverage for fans, the TSN alternate feed will carry live event coverage that is not available on TSN due to prior programming commitments.

It had nothing to do with just the playoffs--other BDUs have carried TSN-Alt since it was introduced/approved by the CRTC over a year ago.

Even the reference to NHL Centre Ice is misplaced... A subscription to CI provided absolutely no extra hockey games in the playoffs as CBC and TSN carried them all. Since CI subscribers weren't getting anything extra--not even anything extra in HD--there's absolutely no reason to conclude TSN-Alt was there to bring "extra" coverage to CI non-subscribers. It was there for *all* Shaw digital subscribers and was the only source for some games (again, CI had nothing).

Hopefully the people making decisions at Shaw aren't as confused as this particular CSR.

watchtoomuch, if you're able to reply to this CSR, please include a link to the TSN Alternate Feed webpage (http://www.tsn.ca/feature/?fid=11103 ). Maybe then they'd check with a supervisor or something. The answer you received can't possibly be the official one. Then again, we're talking about Shaw...

How about the Victoria BC area? Is there still a TSN-Alternate feed channel here? I noted from the TSN website that the NASCAR race from Michigan today was to be broadcast on the ALT feed channel, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks.

As a Star Choice customer, I can't comment on whether Shaw 290 is the TSN-Alt channel. What I can suggest is not to expect the guide to show any programming available on that channel.
In recording the Michigan race on the alternate channel, I set a manual recording for *C 401 from the start time of the race. Pre race shows are NOT often included so you might get a blank screen right up to the start of the race.

I think the Michigan race is going to be replayed on TSN and TSN-HD at 11am this morning.

Here in Abbotsford, I was able to watch the golf playoff today on TSN Alt on channel 291. On the guide it's listed as the Centre Ice stats channel though.

Interestingly, also in Abbotsford, NBC Seattle Channel 202 had the golf playoff on at the same time and on 202 it was HD and on 291 it was SD!

I couldn't find the race anywhere on Shaw. Sent them an email for what it was worth. Nice fathers day gift. My favorite driver wins for the first time in two years and it's the one race that is unavailable to me. It seems like every other carrier in Canada has TSN Alt except Shaw. Sound drops, macro blocking and stuff like this have me looking at Bell.

I missed my NASCAR. No excuse for this. If StarChoice can have it on an alternate channel, then so can Shaw.

The same thing happened last year when TNT was doing the broadcasting. This year the second TNT race was nowhere to be seen, and sure enough, the most popular driver in the series got his first win in 77 races and I couldn't record it.

Not impressed, Shaw.

Who needs TSN Alt when you can have channels like COSMO?(sarcasm, just to be clear) Does anyone actually watch that channel?

I have to agree that if *C has it then so can Shaw as they are the same damn company. I too missed the race as I didn't see it on the guide and got busy doing some things around the house. By the time I realized the race should be on, it had actually already ended and, like everyone is saying, no one in Shawland got to see it. This is PATHETIC.

I missed my NASCAR.

I know it's not the same but it is on Speed right now from 12 noon ET, SD and HD.

AND, get those emails to Shaw, because the New Hampshire race in two weeks (June 29) is only on Alt.
