rimgrund 2008-04-07, 03:09 PM I hope we DON'T get CBS, CTV, and GLOBAL West feeds... can you say, 'simsubbing of the western feeds?'
Wayne 2008-04-07, 11:05 PM I think most cable co's will allow up to 4 outlets
The guys travelling around are more than likely looking for signal leakage from poorly terminated cables, and cheap amplifiers that customers have done themselves, rather than catching outlet thiefs (although I'm sure that is an added bonus stopping leakage, and theft)
Worst case scenario, this leakage can cause interference to air traffic control equipmentBut there are also people who "steal" cable - i.e. a house that is turned into 2 apartments and they pay for one cable and the second household taps into the line of the first.
Going to all-digital will give Rogers much more control over who has access and exactly what channels everyone has access to. It is much better from their perspective than using filters placed in a box outside your house to block unauthorized channels.
Plus it means that every customer is now able to use other revenue generating services such as VOD and PPV.
The downside is that they lose one advantage vs. satellite - you now need a box connected to every TV.
MCIBUS 2008-04-25, 08:43 PM Come May 1st this is how I see Rogers PPV line up:
PPV Preview
PVHD1 Movies/events
PVHD2 Movies/Adult
PPV 1 Movies/Events
PPV 2 Movies
PPV 3 Movies
PPV 8 Movies/Adult
PPV 17-23 Adult
Total of 11 PPV channels left after dropping 12.
The reason I see it this way
4 channels of regular movies
8 channels(7 channels full time 1 part time)Adult only
I see this playing out because of $$$$. Adult movies/services brings in $$$$ for Rogers, other wise they wouldn't offer 7 full Time PPV channels via VCC or the amount of Adult movie Channels & VOD services.
Just look at the Adult Enternment Biz over a $1 Billion industry!!! in sales.
bigoranget 2008-04-25, 08:52 PM I'm sure once VOD is in almost all areas served by Rogers, you will see PPV disappear alltogether with only one channel for events. In most urban areas served by Rogers, there is no need for PPV since VOD is widely available and offers the same product.
MCIBUS 2008-04-25, 09:00 PM Does VOD take up more bandwidth then each individua; PPV Channel? Or is it the same?
bigoranget 2008-04-25, 09:52 PM IT really depends on how many people on your node that are ordering movies. THe short answer is it would be less bandwidth.
trafficinfo 2008-04-26, 11:11 AM ve9arb:
your first link is broken , the second one says this:
CBC/Radio-Canada Fact Sheet
Over-the Air Transmission and the Transition to Digital/HD
therefore I just only read the title that clearly states OTA. I know I am an immigrant and that it sounds similar to ignorant but according to the Webster dictionary both words do not mean the same , lol lol lol.
12 PPV digital channels depending on the compression they are using could easily mean at least 1 QAM channel therefore will give Rogers more bandwith (much needed for any carrier anyways) to broadcast at least 2 more HD Channels or 3 if compressed.
In the long run it will be better for them to get rid off the Analog channels (around 70) and therefore use almost 420 Mhz of bandwith for new HD and SD digital channels.
MCIBUS 2008-04-28, 07:10 PM Well it appears(if the IPG is correct)acording to Rogers IPG for May on if the info is correct then these are the PPV Channels going to stay and be dropped. To be honest it seems quite odd as how their doing it

So my pervious perdiction on how Rogers PPV would look like after MAY 1st was pretty accurate. Only off by 2 channels. Notice the last few 17-21,23 all just have adulkt programing 24/7,
So if this pans out to be true and the programing staysd the way it is noew withpout changes you'll have:
1 channel for movies/events/sports(PPV 1)
4 channels for regular movies)PPV 3,5,12,16)
6 channels for Adult only movies(PPV 17-21,23)
As to why they did it this way is beyond me, that is if it pans out to be true.
TOM :)
MCIBUS 2008-05-01, 11:58 AM So I was right in my perdiction
PPV #
1,3,5,12,16-21,23.
As twhy Rogers did it this way is beyond me.
They could just have PPC Channels 1-11? Itwould of made it much simpler.
SMCKINNON24 2008-05-01, 09:41 PM Yes. Thge PPV Removal TYook place and is accurate with the removal. They need to remap the IPG and the Channels again
dmccorm140 2008-05-01, 10:53 PM They need to move Superchannel closer to TMN.
SMCKINNON24 2008-05-03, 06:06 PM I agreee they need to remap some of the channels and since newer channels are pending to launch
