Has anyone checked out the new Telus sub-brand Koodo wireless, and checkedout any of their offerings? I also notice they do not have a SAF, but instead, they charge a mandatory $10 network fee, which replaces the 6.95 saf, and they say its the fee to use voicemail and call display, which rogers & fido pay as u go both include for FREE. hmm..
any other perks about this new CDMA Telus MVNO / sub brand, what ever u wanna call it?

Hi,
There seems to be some confusion in your post!
Koodo does not make it's customers pay a SAF and certainly does not charge a mandatory $10 network fee. Their rate plans and add-ons are more straightforward and transparent.
Koodo plans come with Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, Conference Calling and Per-Second Billing and Voice Mail and Call Display can be added-on for an extra $5 each.
The $10 mandatory network fee is something Virgin charges instead of a SAF and pays for features like voicemail and call display (although their prepaid customers get these for free!)
To Dweevil's point, the $10 Network Fee is Virgin's add-on fee.
I don't think Koodo has the additional fee, however, their plans don't come with Voicemail or Call display (which most do) so you'll have to pay $10 a month on top of your plan for that.
Add it all up and the prices and it pretty much is the same as any other wireless provider.

I am very confused by this new company.
It hasn't been on the radar that much, and it just kind of popped up.
I think the plans are good if you like to text more than you talk. I like the fact that it doesn't have the system access fee, but at the same time like everyone else is pointing out the call display is $5 so I guess thats a turn off for people. Finding out it was CDMA instead of GSM kind of burst my bubble BUT competition is good :D

Just started a week or two ago. Its owned by Telus but Telus doesn't want people to know that.
So Bell has Solo, Rogers has Fido and Telus now has koodo.

koodo seems pretty good. You get cheaper cell service. No system access fee. But you have to do all your transactions online on there web site. Like changing plans or adding new things. If you call into customer service they charge you money.
Check out the Why do I get charged for calling customer support.

I'm looking for a couple of cheap phones for light use, and don't need call display or voicemail, so this may be a good option.

Then prepaid options might suit you and cost less. The MVNO's seem to have better rates than their host operators e.g. Virgin cheaper than Bell (Solo) and 7-11/PetroCan cheaper than Rogers.
If you don't need/want US roaming on the plan, then 7-11 Speakout seems to be the lowest cost and most versatile option. Also, being on GSM gives you the option (with the right phone) to use pre-paid SIMs for global travel.
