: MCE 2005/Xbox 360 Remote Conflict

Hello,

I've been searching the net but can't find a solution to my problem.

I've been running MCE 2005 with a remote and IR blaster to my digital receiver with great success for a few years now. I recently added an Xbox 360 to the same room. Now I have a remote control issue with the MCE remote (old black bone shaped one). It looks like it uses the same codes as the 360, so when I want to launch Media Center (on the computer) the 360 turns on, etc.

I realize the 360 has MCE extender capabilities, but I really want to just use my computer to watch recorded shows.

Is it possible to change the IR codes on the MCE remote? Has anybody else found a way around this?

Thanks.

funny eh.. kind of good and bad (good that you can use the mce remote for 360 as well, but bad that both devices will respond to it).

i did find a solution actually.. most of the time i'm not using any ir remotes with the 360, so i keep a little piece of paper blocking the ir sensor on the 360. seems to be working so far

Have you tried disabling the MCE remote functionality in the 360 Dashboard? Go to the Remote blade and play around with the settings. There is an option in there to configure how the 360 receives remote signals.

Jeneral is correct, you can configure the XBox 360 to ignore MCE remotes and only respond to the XBox 360 Remote codes. I believe it's a setting in the system blade.

I have the exact same issue and have been wondering about this. I have a Harmony that I have programmed to control all of my components and when using MCE it is causing the XBOX360 to come on ever since I bought the XBOX360 a month ago.

Disabling the IR remote should work but then that means that I can't use my Harmony remote to control the XBOX. Are there any other options, liking using an alternate set of codes for either MCE or XBOX?

Thanks for the help.

Jeneral was correct, there is a setting under the System blade --> Remote Control. The options are basically "all remotes" or 360 only. I set it to 360 only and the xbox no longer responds to the MCE remote. I suspect that it will now only work with the new white Xbox 360 media remote.
