T2 HD WMV version on disk 2 od T2: Extreme Edition DVD set is DRM-protected and requires a license that needs to be acquired online, so I kinda doubt it, but who knows...
well the PS3 can go online so maybe...i'll have to test before/after Mar26

Anyone checked a WMV playback of DRM-protected files on PS3 yet? (like WMV-HD copies of IMAX movies, etc.)

So does this mean that I can finally play the T2 HD WMV video? :) I do have it on Bluray, but was just curious.

Another potential problem with 'T2: Extreme Edition' WMV HD disk is the fact that it is authored as a DVD-Video disk (not DVD-Data disk). It is to be seen what PS3 is going to allow you to do with the data content on it. BTW, there is 4 T2 WMV HD files on the disk (part 4 is actually less than 2G)...

Also Windows Media Audio (WMA, WMA-Pro) codec needs to be supported by PS3 to get the sound working with WMV HD disks; so far PS3 only supports WMV (VC-1) codec.

Just updating now. There is one surprise. It says FW 2.20 supports subtitles for Divx files. That's huge.

That was fast, wasn't 2.17 out just a couple of weeks ago or less?

Yes, 2.17 was out just recently. It was just a maintenance release. My guess is that Sony wanted to get the bug release out first, ensure that it didn't cause any problems and then layer on the new functionality.

My assumption is that it is probably easier to identify any patch problems by doing it in two steps.

Awesome. That was a wish by a lot of folks. Nice work, Sony.

WMV files larger than 2G are still not supported :(

That's not true. I just played a WMV file bigger than 2GB that wouldn't play prior to the 2.20 update.

Updated without any problems in about 10 minutes this morning

I only tried large DRM-protected WMV HD files; those still show up unsupported... Will try some non-DRM stuff tonight. The aspect ratio of anamorphic WMV HD (1440x1080) clips is now fixed (no need to use full screen mode).

Took me about 45mins last night for the update.
I read 2.17 was just to stop hackers from playing games from the hard drive.

Installed without any incidents. Took about 10 minutes.

Checked out the Resume feature. Works as advertised. Played a DVD for a couple of minutes, stopped the disc, ejected it and then put the disc back in. Voila, the movie picked up playing from where it stopped without a hitch. Nicely done!

You can see a progress bar at the top of your display quickly flash up when the movie is stopped.

I should add that I have autoplay upon disc insertion turned on.

Note - does not work if you do an eject without stopping the movie first.

Didn't have a chance to check out any BR movies.

DivX support seems much improved. The PS3 now plays nearly all the files that it wouldn't play before.

Regarding subtitles -- they do work, but the PS3 will not detect external subtitles. You have to mux external subtitles into the divx file using a program like Divxmuxgui, which sounds painful, but the program only takes a few minutes per file, doesn't recode, and will work in batches so even if you have a lot of external subs it should be relatively quick and easy to mux them all.

Nice! I was pretty happy overall with its support to begin with so making the support improved like this is excellent. When I get home I am going to fire up the ones it wouldn't play to see how it goes.

I updated my PS3 to 2.20 and the resume feature seems to work great.

I happen to have Saw IV that I rented still here and was able to create a MoLog account and it connected to their server. I don't completely understand how the feature in the movie works so I didn't write a log yet but it all seemed to work fine.

The biggest part im sure is : "Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) is now supported"

Watched 'The 6th Day' BD (that has BD-Live content) tonight. The movie itself looks and sounds great, but the BD-Live stuff is a joke. The screen looks like console (no GUI), none of the features work properly (Java exceptions are being thrown constantly)... Maybe it's to early (the official release date is Apr 8), so the web servers supporting the feature are not quite ready. And Resume feature did not seem to work with this BD either...
