Hugh, how much of your interview did they cut out?

Noticed some of the footage was from the downtown FS store. It came on at 10pm on the CBC HD channel out of Toronto.

They were at my home for about an hour and 15 minutes!

Personally, I would have rather heard more of what you were saying Hugh, than some teenage boy who bought an HD-DVD player at Xmas.

Hahaha, in fact, the teenager was quite cool. The doom and gloom style of the presentation made me think that the boy would say something like "I was duped into buying a dead format and I'm going to sue the vendor or kill myself now!" Instead he finished his statement with maturity that is rarely seen on Internet forums.

I won't give the kid too much credit. Sounds like he has money to blow. Anyone who bought an HD DVD player should be pissed. Sure they knew this was a possibility. But you think the Best Buy guy was telling this to grandpa who was shopping on Boxing Day? I don't mean to stereotype, but I'm sure a lot of people frankly were duped by salespeople the last few months. Heck, what about someone who bought one of these players last week or yesterday!!! I wonder what the salespeople are saying today.

Hugh, I thought they'd have at least given you 45 seconds... your part was over in the blink of an eye! BTW, what were you watching on the big screen behind you? Was it OTA or BEV?

I won't give the kid too much credit. Sounds like he has money to blow.His parents' money?. ;) To him the instant obsolescence of a digital consumer device is probably no big deal because he or his friends likely have a stack of old game platforms that have been obsoleted.

I'm the same way with computers - it is quaint to hold on to some of my obsoleted old stuff but really, its useless. I think being blase' about such technological change is an outcome of living in our digital consumer society. Unfortunately its not good for the environment as lots of that old stuff goes into our landfills, but as an R&D guy I know that the market is all about change and improvement, so like others I'm eager to see what's coming.

I think the HD DVD obsolescence doesn't have as much impact at large as some of the format war posters might have believed. HD DVD might be going out with a whimper and not a bang. To me the kid's reaction told me volumes.

I was not surprised that I was only on for seconds but I was disappointed that some of the questions that I considered really interesting were not aired but I guess you have to remember that this is for a "national" audience.

Frankly, I really don't care if I am on for 10 seconds or 10 minutes because the only thing I want is for advertisers to say, hey maybe we should advertise on Digital Home since they are a site where HD users go! I know I say this a lot but Digital Home needs advertisers to keep this thing going. We need the likes of Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG and Hitachi advertising here!

Oh and if you are a potential advertiser reading this

In 2007 Digital Home had 5 million visits from 2.7 million unique visitors and served up over 25 million page views. For the month of January 2008, we served up 3.35 million pages views to 397,315 unique visitors.

Last time I saw Hugh he was being interviewed on a tv show, in studio. Can't remember the channel. I thought Hugh had hair back then. The tough guy, 20-something yr old image works, though. That's what's hot with advertisers these days.
