OK
interesting, I'll just assume it was the station then.

It could be the station you were watching it on forgot to switch back to HD after the commercials.

57.1 CityTV HD has done that a few times.

Just a glitch on WDIV's part, plain and simple.

Currently i have my antenna in my attic (don't know the model it was a hand-me-down) but it's UHF/VHF combo. All Detroit channels come in perfect, but I was thinking about adding a pre-amp, hoping to clear up CBC and A-Channel, and possibly grab some Toledo channels (the come in staticy). Can someone recommend a pre-amp, channel master has a lot, but which one would be best.

A pre-amp won't improve your reception of analog channel 9.

When you say 'clear up' CBC, do you mean that you get lots of ghosts on that channel?

There is a little bit of static and a slight ghosting effect.

Do you mean static (short white horizontal lines 'sparkling' across the screen) or snow (fuzzy grainy picture)?

A preamp may not improve the static (unless it's generated locally in your house), but it can help with the snow.
It's not likely to help with the ghosting.

I will probably buy one and try it and see how it works and if not I will return it.

Read the FAQ and no answer. I'm New to Sarnia & new to HD. Just picked up a Samsung HDTV (32A450) and don't plan on paying for cable services. Can someone comment on how many channels I'll pick up with a indoor antenna? Is it worth buying one? Recommendations? Drew

Carntepa: get a ChannelMaster 4228, which is about 1 inch thick by 3 feet high by 3 feet across and can be used indoors (I use a lampstand as a mast) and will get you the michigan stations no problem

There's not that much Canadian HDTV in that area:
global and ctv repeaters are in sarnia and A-Channel in London/wingham/windsor (and city in windsor), but not sure if any of them are HD.
I can get sarnia stations in london so presumably the converse holds

You need outdoor antenna to get Detroit ATSC channels from your location. Adding a rotor to the setup will add Flint stations.

Looking for current Bell Evu info, least expensive HD package with CBC HD.

Hey guys,

I live near Windsor, On and want to get the HD channels from Detroit on my new Sharp Aquos. Right now I am using a pair of rabbit ears (non powered) and am getting a few channels but am missing NBC and FOX (I got to get House in HD!) Does anyone recommend a good powered indoor antenna? Thanks!

cptcarter, see the Antenna Chart in the OTA Forum Knowledge Base & FAQ to find the best antennas of all types:

Has anyone lost Channel 50, all of the sudden it's gone. On the antenna setup it fluctuates between 3 bars and 0 for reception. I believe that they share the same tower as CBS, and 62 is at max, anyone else have the problem ????

Didn't look at OTA yesterday, but just checked now and 50 is fine for me, as are the other Detroit DTV channels.

As for the location, the tower for 62 is at the same location as 56. 50 is at a different location.

I did recently put a splitter on my antenna at the mast, to run a signal to my garage TV. But 50 in the past has always come in. My antenna is mounted in my attic, I have not moved it. There is a slight signal coming in on the antenna signal, about 3 bars, probably needs to be tweeked a bit.

The problem is I have the antenna line split in 2 spots, when I removed the splitter, the signal is ok. I guess I have to look for a better quality splitter.

Keep in mind that a splitter in addition to giving you two outputs for one input also reduces the signal strength of each of those outputs by 1/2.

If your incoming signal is marginal to begin with, as soon as you split it the signal on each of the outputs will be even worse.

You might want to consider a pre-amp installed at the antenna. It will effectively boost the strength of the incoming signal so that the resultant loss due to the splitter is mitigated.

Perhaps if possible better yet would be to split the signal only once in "one" location with a 3 way splitter. I live in the "Puce" area and have done this plus split the signal again behind one of three tv sets. I do not need an amplifier at all. As Mr Weather said doing the splitting your way cuts the signal by 50% with each splitter intalled. May take a little work but in the end you would be better off I think.
