How is it that you are in Holly, Michigan getting CBC Windsor and I am right here in Windsor not getting CBC Windsor. Waaaaaah. What am I doing wrong?

I'm getting 7/10 bars on my Samsung...but I have quite the antenna set-up. I also get 32-3 TVO with 3/10 bars.

Hello

I am in the Olde Walkerville section of Windsor. I have a samsung hd tv and an RCA flat black antenna on the tv stand indoors. I get some detroit digital stations like the 3 PBS channels, but not a single canadian channel. Yes, I rescanned for channels and even manually punch in channel 9 let's say to try to get CBC television. Nothing. I moved the antenna around a bit. Nothing. Not CBC nor CTV nor TVOntario.

What is going on? Any advice?
I am no expert, but something ain't right. You should be receiving CBC,CTV2 and TVO easily. My first guess is that the antenna is no good. Other than that, it could be that there are trees/buildings that are interfering with the signal. I am using a coat hangar antenna, and I pick up about 20 stations. Another thing you could try, if you are using a converter box, try channel scanning with the antenna detached, then plug the antenna back into the box and rescan. It's worth a try.

LOL guys the CBC signal is so strong in Windsor with the transmitter being so close I just picked it up with nothing more than a piece of coax hooked up to my Samsung plasma. Seriously, if you can't pick it up you must be doing something wrong. Are you sure you're scanning Digital channels on RF9? Thats really all thats required assuming your line to your antenna is good....

A number of posters here have indicated problems with receiving CBET. I had my CM 4228HD pointed at 270 deg west in order to get WPXD and some of Toledo and I completely lost CBET when it went digital. Zero signal.

But just by moving it a few degrees east toward 280, I was able to get CBET again.

There is something different in the way the signal is being transmitted that required an antenna tweak, but it seems to be a relatively common issue.

CBET comes in all directions for me. CICO is pretty much the same, so I find it odd that you are having problems.

I'm certainly not an expert on the issue but one thing I can imagine it to be is a peculiarity with the CM 4228HD. Perhaps one of the antenna "Nulls" I am always reading about is directly facing the CBC transmitter.

My HDHR reports Signal Strength/Symbol Quality at 100%, but signal quality never goes above 50%. My Samsung TV shows 2 of 10 bars at best, and an SNR around 15 (which dropped drastically this evening, see next line).

While it has been stable all day, it has been out more than on for much of the night. I’m going to see how much of the back of the antenna I can point toward the CBET transmitter without losing WPXD (where the front of the faces).

With CICO, I have no troubles, but I am guessing that is more a function of the antenna being geared toward UHF.

I higher gain antenna (like a 4228) will definitely have more pronounced nulls in its receive pattern.

Also keep in mind that many of the new digital transmitters use much less RF output power. The analog signal you received before was a lot stronger than the digital signal you're receiving now.

I think this is just a simple as the antenna is not particularly designed for VHF reception. A CM4228 is optimized for UHF reception, therefore RF 14 and up. I seem to remember setting someone up once a while back with a 4228 and the reception of Fox 2 Detroit on RF7 wasn't great...... therefore this doesn't suprise me on RF9.

My Antennacraft combo picks up great VHF, mind you it has the correct dipoles for it of different lengths.

Yes, the 4228HD is a UHF antenna, but it is well known for its good VHF-hi performance. In fact, WJBK (RF 7) is one of the strongest channels I receive (albeit off the front of the antenna).

Given that fact, and the fact that I receive CiCO very strongly from the same transmitter, the issue is probably a combination of Nulls, lower power, VHF-hi and back of the antenna reception.

I am thinking about adding a seperate VHF antenna just to see if that helps.

I am in Chesterfield, MI and rec'd CBC 9 before the digital conversion....since the digital conversion I was only able to pick up the signal once. I don't think my current antenna (outdoor antenna bought from Radio Shack and only has a 25 mile range) will do it now. Can anyone recommend a good antenna to be able to pick up CBC (and hopefully "A" channel)? Sorry, I'm not a techie. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (it is mounted on the roof though).

Kristin...I am all the way up in Holly and I get CBC 9-1 rock solid with my antenna and pre-amp. I also get a lock on TVO 32-3 out of Windsor. I'm too far away to pull in any other Windsor channels. You should have no problem getting CBC 9 with a better antenna. I have what's called an HD Stacker. Look up Denny's Antenna's web-site to check it out, if you want. I get awesome reception from this "small" workhorse antenna.

Thanks for the info!! I appreciate it!!! That makes me feel A LOT better that you are in Holly and get CBC!!! WHEH! :)

Kristin-

From Chesterfield it will be tough to get CTV Two (which is what A is now called). With a huge antenna, you may have a shot at CFPL from London. You should also get the Sarnia analog signals with decent reception. CHCH-51 from London (actually near Alvinston) is only about 50 miles from you so that's a possibility too.

The most popular VHF/UHF combos around this board seem to be the Channel Master 4228 or what I have, the 3671. A preamp would help too. Also, height is important, as well as a clear line of sight (above buildings, lack of trees, etc.)

what do you think of this recommendation?

HD Stacker antenna, the 9521 Channel Maser rotor, the 8780 pre amp, the mount, the mast pipe, the solid copper RG6 cable, the rotor wire

This is what I was given by an installer...Don't know if this is good or not??!?

I like it. My only concern would be with the 8780 pre-amp. I would try the 8700 first. You may experience some signal overload problems down where you are close to the Southfield transmitters. All the rest of the reccomendations are good one, IMHO! Good luck and keep us posted, k?

Thanks for the info on the pre-amp!!! See, I knew I cam to the right place ;) Greatly appreciated.....I will keep you guys updated. *crossing fingers* lol

Go out and buy yourself a HDTV Kristen....you will LOVE the picture!!! I have a converter box for my garden level tv. I would not consider my opinion on converter boxes worth much. I hardly ever use it.
