On the wireline side of the business, Telus estimates that Canadian wireline revenues were flat in 2007. Canadian consumers continue to substitute wireless and VoIP services for traditional wired telephony services forcing companies like Telus and Bell Canada to offset revenue losses in home phone service by focusing its attention on high speed internet services.
Telus reported its wireline segment revenues decreased by 0.3% in 2007, similar to 2006, as growth in data services nearly offset losses in voice services. Telus' residential access lines decreased 6.5% in 2007, compared with a 5.2% loss in 2006.
During the year, the number of Telus Internet subscribers grew by 6% to 1.18 million (consisting of 1,020,200 High Speed internet and 155,300 dial-up subscribers) while the number of network access lines decreased by 3% to 4.40 million.
